About our TR19 inspection in Wood's Corner

Think of a TR19 inspection as the diagnosis before the treatment. Readings, photos and notes on access are gathered from end to end, so the clean can be planned properly. Common call-outs are for extracts that have never been grease tested and extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean, on deposit thickness tests, access surveys and pre-clean surveys.

Somewhere as small as Wood's Corner, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

We have been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

What we do, step by step

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. The timing of a visit to Wood's Corner is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
  2. The same access points are opened up.
  3. We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
  4. We photograph each area to record how it was left.
  5. The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.

How to prepare

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Let us know about parking and loading

Getting a quote

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
  • Fire safety duties beyond the extract system
  • Sections with no access, until panels are fitted

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Insurer audits
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Access surveys
  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Post-clean checks
  • Deposit thickness tests

Keeping the system healthy

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Flag oily drips near the extract
  • Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals
  • File every inspection report with your certificates
  • Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs

The audit report is set out to pass straight to your insurer or broker, with readings, photos and any areas not accessible.

Fit access panels where the survey finds sections can’t be reached, so grease is not left building in hidden parts.

What the work involves, part by part

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Education kitchens need TR19 inspections like any other. Readings show if the interval is right.

Canopy and plenum

Clean-looking filters don’t mean a clean plenum. That is why we test behind them.

Why it’s worth doing now in Wood's Corner

Skipping grease testing leaves the cleaning interval to guesswork. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning under TR19® Grease, which you will not know without measuring. If the system at a site near Wood's Corner fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

When to call us in Wood's Corner

As hot, greasy air travels up the duct, it cools and leaves a film behind. It often collects where nobody can see it: the plenum, bends and horizontal runs.

The symptoms we are asked about most include:

  • Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
  • Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
  • Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits
  • Insurers asking for TR19 evidence

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Hellingly Hospital about 6 miles south-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Comparing quotes

  • Whether a survey comes first
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Wood's Corner

Can the work in Wood's Corner be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in Wood's Corner keeps running as normal. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Which council inspects kitchens in Wood's Corner?

That’s Rother council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Wood's Corner. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Can you verify a clean after it’s been done?

It’s an inspection after cleaning, to show what state the system was left in, for our cleans and other firms’ alike.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

Is TR19 cleaning the law?

No, not in itself. But the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk under the Fire Safety Order 2005, and grease in the extract is part of that. Many insurance policies also require TR19 adherence.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.
