About our TR19 inspection in Iford
A pre-clean survey is the diagnosis, and the clean is the treatment. Readings, pictures and notes on access are gathered from end to end, so the quote and the clean fit the real system. The work covers deposit thickness tests, access surveys and wet film thickness tests, and common reasons people get in touch are sites with gaps in their extract records and ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits.
For a kitchen in or near Iford, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Multi-site and managed buildings
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
Signs you need TR19 inspection in Iford
Not every section of a kitchen extract is easy to get to, so those sections can be skipped time and again. A survey finds the sections that can’t be reached, so the gaps can be closed.
The symptoms we are asked about most are:
- Parts of the system left out of past cleans
- Checking the result of a recent clean
- Systems that need surveying before cleaning
- Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
School kitchens, at schools like Iford and Kingston Church of England Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
- What hours they’ll be on site
- Whether the quote shows VAT
Different parts, different methods
Horizontal duct runs
Grease can gather thickly at bends and along long runs, out of sight of the kitchen.
Restaurants, pubs and hotels
A kitchen running from breakfast to late service builds grease quickly. Regular testing shows whether the cleaning interval keeps up.
What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- How big the system is
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.
What to send for a quote
A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- A few general shots of the system
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Why act early in Iford
Don’t wait for an EHO visit or insurance renewal to find gaps in your extract records. An inspection now gives a site in Iford a current picture. If the system at a site near Iford fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.
What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

What TR19 inspection can’t fix
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person
- Hidden runs that need access panels first
- Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think before you book.
What the work covers
- Post-clean checks
- Pre-clean surveys
- Access surveys
- Deposit thickness tests
- Wet film thickness tests
- Insurer audits
The process
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Somewhere like Iford, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.
- The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
- We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
- Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
- Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
- You get a report with readings, photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
How to get a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Kitchen extracts in Iford
There are about 4 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 3 sandwich bars and takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Iford, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. A WFTT or DTT reading tells each of those kitchens whether its grease is staying under the 200-micron mean. Environmental health officers from Lewes council inspect food businesses in Iford. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Iford is covered by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.
If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Iford (Monk's House is about 1.4 miles south-east), fitting access panels needs care. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Lewes Victoria Hospital about 1.7 miles north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.
Iford is about 2 miles south of Lewes, in East Sussex. Iford gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where needed and a written report with photos. We cover 289 places across East Sussex, from busy centres to quieter spots.

Questions from Iford
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Iford?
The local authority for Iford is Lewes council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Iford?
Fire safety enforcement in Iford is handled by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.
What do the grease readings need to be?
The TR19® Grease figures are a mean of 200 microns or less between cleans, and immediate spot cleaning wherever a reading hits 500 microns. We show your readings against those figures.
What should I send you?
Some pictures and a quick description of the system plus the address and your hours. If we need more, we will ask.
Do you work in Iford?
Yes. We work in Iford and the rest of East Sussex, within our South East and London area. To book, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
What’s TR19?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.
What do you do to protect the area?
We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before any work starts, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
