Ductwork cleaning for sites in Horam

Ductwork cleaning in Horam, done properly

The ductwork is where an extract clean is won or lost. Sections with no way in can go uncleaned for years. We open up every reachable section and record any we cannot reach, so you know exactly where you stand. If you have a duct clean needed for an insurer and fat dripping from the ductwork, we can help.

Work in a small place like Horam starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

A written report with photos follows every visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Why it’s worth doing now in Horam

BESA guidance says grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans. Anywhere that reaches 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning. Putting off the clean only pushes readings higher. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

Questions from Horam

Who is the fire and rescue service for Horam?

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Horam. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Can the work in Horam be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. That way a site in Horam doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes, of course. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we’ll propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

Are you accredited?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it and the fixed quote is built on it.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

What paperwork do you give after a duct clean?

Every clean comes with a photo report, plus a TR19 certificate when the whole system is cleaned. Keep both in the maintenance log.

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before any work starts, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. The timing of a visit to Horam is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
  3. Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
  4. Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
  5. We test again, take photos and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

How to prepare

  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Honest limits

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A duct that is too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
  • Parts of the duct with no way in
  • Leaking duct joints that need repair

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly.

What the work covers

  • Bends and junctions
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Access panels
  • Attenuators

What staff can safely do

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Horam

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

How the job changes from site to site

Vertical risers

In taller buildings, a riser may pass through several floors and fire compartments, where fire dampers may be fitted. Damper testing is a separate service.

Multi-storey and shared buildings

A fire in a duct in a shared building can affect far more than one kitchen, which makes keeping it clean all the more important. Your certificate and report give building managers the record they need.

Kitchen extracts in Horam

Food Standards Agency data counts about 3 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Horam. Where they cook under a canopy, grease doesn’t stop at the filters: it settles along the duct and up the riser. Fire safety in Horam falls to East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Horam are the job of Wealden council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Where a hall near Christ Church, or anywhere in Horam, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Maynards Green Community Primary School or anywhere near Horam, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. A hospital like Hellingly Hospital Railway, about 3.1 miles south, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Keep to the interval on the report
  • Keep access panels clear of stored items
  • Consider fitting panels where the report shows gaps
  • Never cook with a filter missing

The report gives a recommended next clean date, worked out from the grease we found and how long you cook each day, in line with BESA guidance.

The less grease gets past the canopy, the cleaner the duct stays. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.
