Ductwork cleaning across America Ground

The process

At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. All told, the work takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Because the survey comes first, a visit to America Ground can normally be finished without a second trip.

  1. First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
  2. We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
  3. We open the panels and scrape out the heaviest grease.
  4. The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
  5. Post-clean readings and photos go into the report, with any unreachable section listed.

How we handle ductwork cleaning in America Ground

Not sure when the ductwork was last cleaned? A few details about the system are a good start when you phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we’ll give you a fixed quote for ductwork cleaning, typically within one working day. If you have a duct clean needed for an insurer and a rancid smell from the extract duct, we can put it right, from multi-storey ducts, attenuators and horizontal duct runs onwards.

In a smaller place like America Ground, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

America Ground kitchens: local notes

America Ground is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. The FSA’s data shows about 58 pubs, bars and clubs and about 15 hotels and guest houses registered within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of America Ground. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service covers America Ground. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

For kitchens close to Hastings station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Holy Trinity Church or elsewhere in America Ground, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. A hospital like Conquest Hospital, about 2.1 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

America Ground is about 1 mile east of St Leonards, in East Sussex. America Ground gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with pictures. We cover 289 places across East Sussex, from busy centres to quieter spots. For sites nearby, see our Maidstone page, about 29 miles away.

Ductwork cleaning in TN34, TN37 and TN35 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. Multi-site and managed buildings

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
  • Keep your cleaning records together
  • Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned
  • Keep to the interval on the report

The report names every part of the duct that couldn’t be reached, with the reason. You can then decide whether to have access panels fitted.

Book the next duct clean before the date passes. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval may need to shorten, and grease thickness testing will show it.

Honest limits

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
  • Faulty fire dampers
  • Parts of the duct with no way in

If you are not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Leave it or put it right?

Under BESA guidance, the mean grease level should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans. A reading of 500 microns or more at any point means a spot clean right away. Leaving the duct makes those limits harder to keep to. A site near America Ground that has to close at short notice is hard to cover for.

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

Different parts, different methods

Multi-storey and shared buildings

Ducts in taller or shared buildings often run past other occupiers. We plan access with you and the building manager, so the clean is done safely and quietly.

Horizontal duct runs

Long horizontal runs need access panels at regular intervals. Where the gaps between panels are too long, we record what couldn’t be reached and can fit extra panels.

America Ground: your questions answered

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in America Ground during the holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Around America Ground, the Food Standards Agency lists about 6 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in America Ground?

It’s East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, which covers America Ground. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?

You get a photo report with before and after pictures, and a full TR19 clean also comes with a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. File them with the fire risk assessment.

How do you know if the ductwork needs cleaning?

A grease thickness test gives the answer. Using a Wet Film Thickness Test or Deposit Thickness Test, we check the grease at set points. BESA guidance says the mean shouldn’t exceed 200 microns, and 500 or more anywhere needs immediate spot cleaning.

How much does ductwork cleaning cost in America Ground?

It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. For a quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us about the site and its opening hours.

How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?

Through access panels along the duct. Heavy grease is scraped out by hand, then the surfaces are degreased with a method that suits the deposit, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.

Do you install duct access panels?

Yes, we do. We will point out where panels are needed, and fitting them means future cleans are more complete.
