Ductwork cleaning in Pett
We’ve been trading since 2009, working across London and the South East. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. We’re often asked to deal with grease seeping out of the duct seams and ductwork that has never been cleaned, across multi-storey ducts, vertical risers and attenuators.
Work in a small place like Pett starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

Ductwork cleaning in Pett: the local picture
The coast is only about 1 mile from Pett. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. Food Standards Agency records list about 3 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within about 1.5 miles of central Pett. Behind every canopy among them is a run of ductwork that collects grease out of sight. It’s Rother council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Pett. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
Church and community hall kitchens, near St Mary & St Peter or anywhere around Pett, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Conquest Hospital (about 4.5 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

What your team can do, and what needs us
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Pett
Damaged or poorly fitted filters let more grease into the duct. More grease reaches the ductwork than it should, and build-up speeds up.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Grease leaking from duct joints
- Hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs
- Duct runs that cannot be reached
- A duct nobody has opened in years
If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Pett (Lamb House is about 4.7 miles north-east), fitting access panels needs care.

Pett: your questions answered
Which fire authority looks after Pett?
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Pett. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Does coastal air change anything about ductwork cleaning in Pett?
It can. Pett is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. We look at fans, cowls and fixings for rust as well as grease.
How long does it take to clean extract ducts?
A short duct can be cleaned in a few hours, but long or complex ducts may take several visits. Visits are planned out of hours.
How far ahead should we book?
Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. We normally quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.
How much does ductwork cleaning cost?
Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us about the site and its opening hours.
What happens if there aren’t enough access panels?
Any section we can’t reach is recorded on the report, as TR19 expects. New panels can be fitted to reach them in future.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.
Why act early in Pett
Fire inside a duct is out of sight and out of reach. It can travel through the ductwork to other parts of the building, so cleaning the duct is as important as cleaning the hood. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

What ductwork cleaning cannot fix
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Ductwork that was poorly designed
- Leaking duct joints that need repair
- Parts of the duct with no way in
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly.

How the job changes from site to site
Bends and transitions
Transitions from the canopy spigot into the duct catch a lot of grease. We reach it from the plenum side where possible.
Vertical risers
Risers are cleaned through panels at different levels. Where it cannot be reached safely, the report says so.
Between visits
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
- Keep access panels clear of stored items
- Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned
- File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
After the clean, the same points are tested again, giving you before and after readings. Photos of each section go alongside them.
Some signs mean the duct needs attention sooner: drips from the ductwork, stale smells or a noisy fan. Testing will show whether any section has reached 500 microns.
How it works
The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers, and we clear up before we go. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Pett, let us know and we will plan around it.
- Diagnosis: a survey of the duct’s route, size and access.
- A fixed quote follows, based on what we found.
- We clean section by section, working from panel to panel.
- We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
- The duct is signed off with readings, photos and a next clean date.
Before we arrive
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
