Ductwork cleaning near The Pound

Ductwork cleaning in The Pound, done properly

Between the canopy and the fan runs the ductwork, hidden above ceilings and inside walls. Grease settles along every metre of it and a fire in the duct can spread through the building. Our ductwork cleaning reaches inside the runs and risers through access panels, to BESA TR19® Grease. The work covers attenuators, bends and junctions and horizontal duct runs, and people most often call us about fat dripping from the ductwork and sections of duct with no access panels.

For a kitchen in or near The Pound, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

What ductwork cleaning cannot fix

Ductwork cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • Parts of the duct with no way in
  • Faulty fire dampers
  • Undersized or badly laid-out ducts

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think.

Kitchen extracts in The Pound

The fire and rescue service for The Pound is East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Environmental health officers from Rother council inspect food businesses in The Pound. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Parish Church of St Peter or elsewhere in The Pound, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Do you need ductwork cleaning in The Pound?

A duct with too few access doors cannot be fully cleaned. Sections between panels go uncleaned, sometimes since the system was installed, and the grease there keeps building out of sight.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
  • A rancid smell from the extract duct
  • Grease seeping out of the duct seams
  • Gaps where access panels were never fitted

Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Bexhill Hospital is the nearest hospital to The Pound, about 5.2 miles south-east.

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • The number of sites or systems
  • The condition of the system

Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:

  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The postcode and the type of business

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Why act early in The Pound

Under BESA guidance, the mean grease level should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans. A reading of 500 microns or more at any point means a spot clean straight away. Putting off the clean only pushes readings higher. Planning a trip to The Pound ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before work begins.

Why The Pound businesses choose us

  • Fixed quotes, normally within one working day
  • One contact for all your sites in London and the South East

How the visit works

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to The Pound.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
  3. Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
  4. Horizontal runs and risers are then degreased by the method that suits the deposit.
  5. We test again, take pictures and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

How to prepare

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Keep to the interval on the report
  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
  • Don’t switch the extract off early
  • Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up

The report gives a recommended next clean date, based on the readings and your daily cooking hours, in line with BESA guidance.

Extra access panels mean more of the duct gets cleaned each time. It does not stop grease forming, but it stops it building unseen.

Common questions in The Pound

Do you work overnight in The Pound?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. It means the site in The Pound keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in The Pound?

Kitchens in The Pound are inspected by Rother council’s environmental health officers. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

How long will the duct clean take?

It takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. The survey tells us how long your duct needs.

What shows that the ducts need a clean?

Start with the date of the last clean. If it’s overdue, or there isn’t one, a clean is due, and grease readings will confirm how urgent it is.

Is a quote from photos possible?

Yes, if we can see what we need. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.

How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?

We survey the route, test the grease, then open the access panels. We clean the runs and risers section by section, then the readings are repeated.
