Ductwork cleaning around Hollingrove
In Hollingrove, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Rother council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Hollingrove, about 43 miles from central London, is within our usual area. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near The Parish Church of St Thomas A Becket or elsewhere in Hollingrove, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Bateman's is about 2.2 miles north-west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Ticehurst House Hospital is the nearest hospital to Hollingrove, about 6 miles north.

Ductwork cleaning in Hollingrove
Grease in a duct is hidden, which is exactly why it’s dangerous. Flames pulled in from the cooking line can ignite it, carrying a fire along the duct and into rooms far from the kitchen. Cleaning the duct takes that fuel away. The work covers horizontal duct runs, vertical risers and attenuators, and people most often call us about a duct nobody has opened in years and smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork.
Work in a small place like Hollingrove starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Each visit ends with a written report and pictures, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What we do, step by step
We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. For a village or hamlet like Hollingrove, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- First we diagnose: the route, the access and the grease levels.
- You get a fixed price before work starts.
- Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
- We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
- Readings, pictures and a recommended next clean date complete the job.
Before we arrive
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
Get a fixed quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
Advice
When it’s something else
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what ductwork cleaning will not do:
- Sections that can’t be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
- Ductwork that’s corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)
- A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
What the work covers
- Horizontal duct runs
- Access panels
- Vertical risers
- Bends and junctions
- Multi-storey ducts
- Attenuators
Why deal with it now?
A dirty duct is something insurers ask about. Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and a claim may be refused or reduced without evidence. Your certificate and photo report show the ducts were cleaned. A fault that closes a site in a village like Hollingrove affects everyone who depends on it.
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

How we price ductwork cleaning
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:
- What state the system is in
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, call 0345 646 2711 or email us for straight advice and a fixed quote.
Helping us quote
You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Aftercare tips
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:
- Flag drips from the duct straight away
- Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
- Do not switch the extract off early
- Leave a way through to the access panels
Access panels are closed and sealed back up after cleaning, and the area around them is cleaned down. Waste grease and water are taken away.
Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.
Hollingrove: your questions answered
Which fire authority looks after Hollingrove?
Fire safety enforcement in Hollingrove is handled by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Hollingrove?
The local authority for Hollingrove is Rother council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
Are you insured?
Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.
How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?
We get into the duct through its access panels. Thick deposits are removed by hand before degreasing, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.
What’s the cleaning interval for extract ductwork?
The minimum depends on how long the kitchen cooks each day: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Measured grease sets the real interval.
What is TR19?
TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
Can you clean ductwork with no access panels?
Without a way in, a section cannot be cleaned properly. We record those sections on the report and can fit access panels.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.
For landlords and multi-site operators
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across East Sussex. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
