Grease filter exchange in Medway: how it works

Filter exchange sits between full TR19® cleans. Clean filters reduce the grease reaching the ducts though vapour still carries some grease past them. So the canopy, plenum and ducts still need their full TR19 clean. Common call-outs are for smoke and heat lingering under the hood and filters so greasy the air can barely pass, on mesh filters, baffle filters and school and hospital kitchens.

Our technicians bring everything the work needs, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes less than an hour in most kitchens.

  1. We count and measure the filters in every canopy.
  2. We agree a schedule that suits how much the kitchen cooks.
  3. On each visit, the dirty filters come out of the canopy.
  4. We fit clean filters and check they sit snugly in the housing.
  5. If a filter is damaged or the plenum needs attention, we tell you.

How we quote

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Get a fixed quote

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Near you in Gillingham

Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to The Robert Napier School, Featherby Junior School and The Robert Napier School, among other places. Also close by are Holy Trinity Church (less than half a mile north-east), The Star pub (0.6 miles west) and Ambley Wood (0.8 miles south). The closest station to Gillingham is Gillingham (Kent) station, roughly 1.5 miles north-west. A little further out are Medway Maritime Hospital (1.6 miles west) and Six Poor Travellers House (3.3 miles west). The countryside around Gillingham includes Blue Bell Hill and Bishop Saltings.

Grease filter exchange around Medway

Our grease filter exchange work across Medway takes in places such as Gillingham, Chatham and Rochester and the villages in between. Every place on our Medway list (68 in all) is covered, with cleans booked around trading hours.

Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites across Medway don’t have to lose a day. Parts of Medway are on or near the coast, where salt air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings. We look for corrosion as well as dirt on coastal sites.

Gillingham: A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Holy Trinity Church or elsewhere in Gillingham, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Medway Maritime Hospital about 1.6 miles west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

What happens if it’s left?

Once filters are saturated, more grease gets past them. That makes the next full clean a bigger job and grease readings can rise between cleans.

What your quote should include

  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
  • How VAT is shown on the quote

What affects the cost of grease filter exchange

There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The number of sites or systems

The cost depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will normally have a quote within one working day.

When something else is needed

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Grease already built up in the ductwork, which needs a full TR19 clean
  • A canopy too small for the cooking beneath it
  • A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

FAQs for Medway

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

What types of premises do you cover?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. Work is timed around how each site runs.

Which records should we keep?

Every certificate and report from each visit, filed in the maintenance log with your in-house cleaning records. BESA says certificates should show the date, location and technician.

Do you cover Medway?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, and that includes Medway.

How long does grease filter exchange take?

On site, it takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. Larger systems naturally take longer, and we will tell you what to expect.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.
