What grease filter exchange looks like in Strood
The Food Standards Agency lists about 29 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 3 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses as registered food businesses within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Strood. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. In Strood, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Medway council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Strood. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Temple Manor is about 0.5 miles south-east), access may need planning. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Francis' Church or elsewhere in Strood, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

What affects the quote in Strood
The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- Any permits to work or inductions
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
What to send for a quote
We can often survey from pictures. Try to include:
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- A few general shots of the system
- The site address and the type of premises
To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
Why deal with it now?
Grease dripping from the canopy is a sign the filters can’t hold any more. Drips land on surfaces and equipment below, which an EHO may well notice. A small fault found now is a quick job; the same fault found later can close the site.
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Do you need grease filter exchange in Strood?
Washing filters by hand does not always get them clean. Grease hides in the folds of a baffle or the layers of a mesh, and a quick rinse leaves it there.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Poor airflow through the filters
- Filters that come out of the sink still dirty
- Grease dripping from the canopy
- Filters so greasy the air can barely pass
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Strood is French Hospital, about 1.2 miles east.
What your quote should include
- How they set the interval to the next visit
- What paperwork you get at the end
- Exactly which parts of the system are covered
- When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
Questions from Strood
Which fire authority looks after Strood?
Strood is in the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Can a school canteen extract in Strood be done out of term time?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. With about 15 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Strood, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Just call 0345 646 2711 or email us with your term dates and we will plan around them.
Does a filter exchange replace TR19 cleaning?
It doesn’t. Filters do not catch everything, so grease still reaches the ductwork and the whole system still needs its TR19 clean.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it, and the quote is based on that.
How far ahead should we book?
Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes normally come back within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.
What do you do to protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before any work starts, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
How often should grease filters be changed?
There’s no single answer. The schedule is based on how heavily you cook, and adjust it if needed.
Can damaged filters stay in the canopy?
A badly damaged filter should be replaced. We’ll show you which ones on the visit.
What a clean will not put right
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- Grease already built up in the ductwork, which needs a full TR19 clean
- Extraction problems caused by the fan rather than the filters
- Grease behind the filters that a swap cannot remove
If you are not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer.
What the work covers
- Wall canopies
- School and hospital kitchens
- Island canopies
- Baffle filters
- Restaurants and pubs
- Mesh filters
How the visit works
We’re used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes well under an hour for most canopies. Work in Strood is usually booked after closing, early in the morning or on a closed day.
- The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
- We set the interval with you.
- On each visit, we remove the greasy filters.
- Clean filters go in and we check they sit snugly.
- The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
Ask for a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
