Grease filter exchange in North Street

Grease filter exchange in North Street, done properly

The filters in the canopy are the first thing cooking vapour meets. They catch grease before it reaches the plenum and ductwork and they do it best when they’re clean. With grease filter exchange, clean filters replace greasy ones at regular intervals. If you have a greasy plenum behind the filters and hand-washed filters that still look greasy, we can help.

In a village or hamlet like North Street, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What grease filter exchange looks like in North Street

The coast is only about 1 mile from North Street. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. Look up North Street on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 4 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of North Street. Each canopy among them has filters that load with grease and need swapping or cleaning. In North Street, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Medway council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Peter and St Paul, or anywhere in North Street, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

How we price grease filter exchange

We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:

  • The times the site is available
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How big the system is

The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

What we need to know

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then give you a fixed quote. To start, call 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Signs you need grease filter exchange in North Street

However long the kitchen cooks each day, the filters see every minute of it. A kitchen that cooks all day loads its filters quickly, so it needs more frequent changes.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Gaps where filters have been removed
  • Filters that come out of the sink still dirty
  • Weak extraction at the canopy
  • A canopy that drips grease

Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to North Street is Medway Maritime Hospital, about 4.9 miles south-west.

Questions to ask before booking

What happens if it’s left?

Dripping canopies and greasy smells often start with the filters. Left, it ends up on equipment, food areas and staff, which an EHO may well notice. It’s simpler to plan the work at North Street now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Why book with us

  • CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, with ISO 9001

Common questions in North Street

Which fire service covers North Street?

It’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which covers North Street. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Do you work at weekends in North Street?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The work in North Street can fit around your hours. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Can you clean our existing filters instead?

Yes, filter cleaning is available. We’ll check your filters first, as damaged ones may be better replaced.

Will we have to shut during the visit?

Not usually. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Bigger sites can be done in stages so parts stay in use.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, we are fully insured. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.

Which records should we keep?

The reports and certificates from each visit, plus your own logs. They’re what an insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask for, so keep them together and easy to find.

What about areas you can’t get to?

They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

When something else is needed

Not every problem is solved by grease filter exchange, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • A canopy too small for the cooking beneath it
  • Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach
  • Grease behind the filters that a swap cannot remove

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and give you a fixed quote.

What happens on the day

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. Visits to a village like North Street are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. We count and measure the filters in every canopy.
  2. Together we set how often the filters should be changed.
  3. On each visit, the dirty filters come out of the canopy.
  4. We fit clean filters and check they sit snugly in the housing.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Advice

Keeping the system healthy

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Look out for drips from the canopy
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is in use
  • Do not let the full clean slip because filters are changed
  • Keep canopy surfaces wiped down

If the plenum behind the filters looks greasy, we say so. It can be a sign that a full TR19® clean is due, and we can arrange it.

If cooking has stepped up, the filter schedule should too. Changing the interval early stops grease building up unseen behind the canopy.
