Our kitchen extract cleaning service in East Sussex
Cooking sends fat-laden vapour into the canopy with every service. It cools inside the duct and settles as a sticky film that thickens month by month. That film is fuel, and cleaning the whole system is how you keep it under control. Typical jobs include extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit and a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction, across discharge points, vertical risers and plenums and filters.
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system.
- We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
- On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
- We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
- We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.
How we quote
Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered and we’ll price it together.
Why choose Duct Doctor
- A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
- We diagnose before we treat
- Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
- Fixed quotes from a survey or pictures
Ask for a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Landmarks near Eastbourne
Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to St Andrew, Princes Park and Stafford Junior School. Also close by are The King's Arms Public House (0.9 miles south-east), WMG Academy for Young Engineers (1.5 miles south-west) and Ratton School (1.1 miles west). Eastbourne’s nearest station is Hampden Park station, about 0.7 miles north-west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Pevensey Castle (3 miles north-east) and Royal Sussex Regimental Museum (1 mile south-east). Open spaces near Eastbourne include Combe Hill.
Kitchen extract cleaning around East Sussex
In East Sussex, we work in places such as Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea and well beyond. We cover every place we list for East Sussex, 289 in all, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.
East Sussex is within the area we cover, which takes in London and the South East. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed quote, wherever it is in East Sussex. In the coastal parts of East Sussex, salt air and damp are hard on ductwork, fans and dampers, and corrosion is one of the things that can stop a fire damper closing.
Eastbourne: A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Andrew or elsewhere in Eastbourne, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Eastbourne District General Hospital about 0.9 miles west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.
Aftercare tips
No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:
- Keep the TR19 certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
- Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
- Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
- Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
When the clean is finished, grease readings are taken again at the same points, so you can see the difference in numbers as well as photos. Your TR19 certificate is then issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
Book the next clean before the last one runs out. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval should be looked at again, and grease readings will show it.
What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
- Fat blocking the kitchen drains
- Damaged duct sections that need replacing
Different parts, different methods
Restaurant and pub kitchens
Restaurants and pubs tend to cook long hours with plenty of frying and grilling, so their cleaning interval is often 3 or 6 months under BESA guidance. Cleans are done after close, overnight or before opening.
Schools, hospitals and care homes
School, hospital and care home kitchens often have fixed hours and long holidays, so cleans can be booked when the kitchen is closed. The certificate and report suit estates and compliance files.
What happens if it’s left?
TR19® is not law, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is. It puts a duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, which in a kitchen includes the grease in the extract. TR19 is the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to.
Questions to ask before you book
- How VAT is shown on the quote
- What hours they’ll be on site
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
What staff can safely do
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
Common questions in East Sussex
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it, and the quote is based on that.
How much notice do you need?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
What does TR19 mean?
It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.
Do you cover East Sussex?
Yes. We work in East Sussex, within our South East and London area. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
Do we have to close the kitchen for the clean?
We work around your hours. Overnight, weekend and between-service cleans are all possible and the kitchen is ready to cook when we leave.
What types of premises do you cover?
Commercial premises of every kind: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.
