Commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Tide Mills

Across Tide Mills, we clean kitchen extract systems to BESA TR19® Grease. We survey first and take grease readings, then clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, fan and discharge. At the finish there’s a TR19 certificate and a before and after photo report. The work covers canopies and hoods, plenums and filters and horizontal duct runs, and people most often call us about a kitchen with no current TR19 certificate and a new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history. Canopy cleaning, extract cleaning and duct cleaning are often used to mean the same thing, but a proper TR19® clean in Tide Mills covers all of it, from the hood to the fan.

Kitchens that fry and grill hardest need the most frequent cleans, so we look at the menu as well as the opening hours when we suggest the next date.

Work in a small place like Tide Mills starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Between visits

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:

  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval
  • Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
  • Keep grease collection points emptied
  • Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly

We hand the kitchen back clean, with the sheeting removed and waste taken away. Waste grease and water are contained and removed, and equipment can be switched back on once we have gone.

Keep the fan on throughout service. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.

How the job changes from site to site

Canopy and plenum

Whether it’s one hood or a long island canopy, each section is cleaned and photographed before and after.

Ductwork and risers

Long flat runs of duct are where grease collects. Each run is cleaned through its access panels, recording any that cannot be reached.

The process

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits, and we clear up before we go. In a small place like Tide Mills, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
  2. Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
  3. The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
  4. Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Move anything stored near the system

Which environmental health team covers Tide Mills?

In Tide Mills, it’s Lewes council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Can you look after several sites?

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

A TR19 certificate, plus a full photo report. It records what was cleaned, what wasn’t accessible and the recommended next clean date.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

What does kitchen extract cleaning cost?

Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Ask us for a fixed quote, usually ready within one working day.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • The times the site is available
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The number of sites or systems

What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What to send for a quote

We can often survey from photos. Try to include:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

When it’s something else

Not every problem is solved by kitchen extract cleaning, and we will tell you before any work starts. It will not put right:

  • Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
  • Extraction that can’t cope with the cooking because of its design
  • A duct that’s holed or coming apart

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think before you book.

Kitchen extracts in Tide Mills

Sea air reaches Tide Mills, which sits within about 1 mile of the coast. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. Food Standards Agency records include about 10 pubs, bars and clubs within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Tide Mills. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. It’s Lewes council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Tide Mills. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Commuter trade near Bishopstone (Sussex) station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Andrew, or anywhere in Tide Mills, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Chailey Heritage Marine Hospital is the nearest hospital to Tide Mills, about under half a mile south-west.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
