How AHU cleaning works in the Isle of Wight

Heating and cooling coils trap dust that gets past the filters. A coated coil restricts airflow and makes the unit work harder. Coils are cleaned carefully, with methods chosen so the fins aren’t flattened. Common call-outs are for intake sections clogged with outdoor debris and odours coming through the supply air, across drain trays, internal panels and filter sections.

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes from a few hours for a compact unit to a day or more for a large one.

  1. First we agree when the unit can be switched off, including evenings or weekends.
  2. We take before pictures of each section of the unit.
  3. Filters, coils and internal surfaces are cleaned from intake to discharge.
  4. We finish with the fan section and the drain tray.
  5. We take after photos and issue the certificate and report.

What you’ll pay

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before work begins.

Landmarks near Newport

We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Seaclose Park, Castle Inn and Island Innovation VI Form Campus, among other places. Other local landmarks include Christ The King College (0.6 miles south-west) and Nine Acres Primary School (less than half a mile south). Nearby you will also find Carisbrooke Castle (1 mile south-west) and St Mary's Hospital (0.8 miles north). The countryside around Newport includes Briddlesford Nature Reserve and Mill Hill.

Ventilation across the Isle of Wight

In the Isle of Wight, we clean ventilation in places such as Newport, Ryde and Cowes and the smaller places around them. We cover every place we list for the Isle of Wight, 125 in all, with work planned out of hours where buildings stay in use.

In England, the Fire Safety Order puts the duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and a TR19® certificate and photo report give you a record of the work. The Isle of Wight includes coastal places, where salt in the air speeds up corrosion of roof-level equipment. Fans and cowls on sea-facing roofs are worth checking at every visit.

Newport: Hospitals such as St Mary's Hospital (about 0.8 miles north) show how much a building can rely on clean ventilation, and smaller healthcare sites near Newport are no different. If you manage a school such as Nine Acres Primary School, ventilation cleaning is best booked for the holidays.

What AHU cleaning can’t fix

Not every problem is solved by AHU cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • Dirty ducts beyond the unit itself
  • Breakdowns that need a mechanical engineer
  • Building management system faults

For landlords and multi-site operators

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we will come back with a fixed quote.

What staff can safely do

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

How we price AHU cleaning

Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • The times the site is available
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we will explain what it covers.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Keeping the system healthy

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • Report stiff or damaged access doors
  • Flag stale or damp smells in the supply air
  • Change filters on schedule and log each change
  • Diary the inspection date recommended in the report

You receive a TR19® certificate and a photo report after the clean. They belong in the plant or maintenance log.

Change or clean filters on time. Once filters clog, dirt starts getting past them.

Questions from the Isle of Wight

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. We always survey first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where needed. A fixed quote follows.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.

What does AHU cleaning cost?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. You get a fixed price before any work starts.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.

Where does the waste go?

Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

Do you work in the Isle of Wight?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, the Isle of Wight included.
