Kitchen extract cleaning in PO31

Kitchen extract cleaning across PO31: what to expect

Think of it as a health check for the kitchen’s airways: diagnose with a survey, treat with a thorough clean, then sign it off. The sign-off is a TR19 certificate with a photo report, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. We’re often asked to deal with an extract that no longer clears the smoke and fat running down the canopy edge, on canopies and hoods, plenums and filters and extract fans.

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. On site, the work takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.

What you will pay

You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.

Around Cowes

We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Isle of Wight Studio School, Cowes Enterprise College and St. Faith's Church, among other places. Other local landmarks include The Painters Arms (0.5 miles north-east) and Cowes Primary School (less than half a mile north). Nearby you’ll also find Isle of Wight Natural History Centre (0.5 miles south-west) and West Cowes Castle (0.7 miles north). Green spaces nearby include Briddlesford Nature Reserve and Mill Hill.

Kitchen extract cleaning around PO31

In PO31, we work in places such as Cowes, Barton and Hunny Hill and well beyond. Every place on our PO31 list (9 in all) is covered, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.

From central London kitchens to coastal hotels and country pubs, London and the South East have every kind of site. Wherever the site is in PO31, the work is done to the same TR19® standard. Parts of PO31 are on or near the coast, where salt air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings. We look for corrosion as well as dirt on coastal sites.

Cowes: Bursars and site managers at schools such as Cowes Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Osborne House is about 1.7 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

What we are called out for in PO31

How fast grease builds up depends mostly on how long the kitchen cooks each day. BESA guidance sets minimum cleaning intervals of every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours a day, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours, and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. They are minimums: measured grease levels set the real interval.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • An extract that has never been cleaned to TR19
  • An inspection that picked up a dirty extract
  • Grease dripping from the canopy or filters
  • Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer

When it’s something else

Kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
  • A fan motor that has burnt out
  • A duct that is holed or coming apart

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The size of the system
  • How easy every part is to reach

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

We can often survey from pictures. Try to include:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room

Why deal with it now?

After a fire, one of the first questions is often when the extract was last cleaned. Many insurers ask for proof of TR19 cleaning and may reduce or refuse a claim without it. A current certificate is far easier to produce than an explanation.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • What records you will receive afterwards
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify

What staff can safely do

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.

FAQs for PO31

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

Every clean comes with a TR19 certificate and a photo report. Keep them in the maintenance log with the fire risk assessment, ready for your insurer or an inspection.

Which sectors do you work in?

Commercial premises of every kind: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. Work is timed around how each site runs.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?

We clean to BESA TR19® Grease as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, and certificates go through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009.

Which parts of the extract do you clean?

We clean every part the grease travels through. Canopy, plenum, filters, ductwork, risers, fan and discharge are all included, reached through access panels where needed.

How long does a kitchen extract clean take?

It takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time. We will confirm the time when we quote.

What about areas you can’t get to?

We record them on the report, with a note of where it is, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.
