How extract fan cleaning works in the Isle of Wight
We’ve been trading since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re often asked to deal with burning smells from the fan area and a motor area thick with grease, on in-line fans, axial fans and discharge points.
There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows.
- We locate the fan and plan how to reach and isolate it.
- It’s isolated so it can’t run while we work.
- We scrape the heavy grease from the blades and housing.
- Blades, housing and surrounds are degreased with care around the electrics.
- We reassemble, run and photograph the fan.
Pricing in the Isle of Wight
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.

How to get a quote
Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.
Around Newport
Typical jobs here are in premises near Seaclose Park, Castle Inn and Island Innovation VI Form Campus, among other places. Also close by are Christ The King College (0.6 miles south-west) and Nine Acres Primary School (under half a mile south). Nearby you’ll also find Carisbrooke Castle (1 mile south-west) and St Mary's Hospital (0.8 miles north). Open spaces near Newport include Briddlesford Nature Reserve and Mill Hill.
Extract fan cleaning around the Isle of Wight
Kitchens across the Isle of Wight cook for very different hours, from all-day town-centre sites to part-time hall and school kitchens. The right interval comes from hours of use and grease readings.
Across England, including the Isle of Wight, the responsible person has a legal duty to assess and reduce fire risk, and each certificate and photo report is a record you can keep in your log book. Near the coast in the Isle of Wight, salt and damp speed up corrosion in fans, ducts and dampers, and corrosion is one of the things that can stop a fire damper closing.
Newport: If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Newport (Carisbrooke Castle is about 1 mile south-west), fitting access panels needs care. For schools such as Nine Acres Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
What extract fan cleaning can’t fix
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A failed motor or worn bearings (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
- Wiring faults to the fan
- A dirty duct upstream of the fan
Why act early?
A greasy fan at the discharge can spread grease onto the roof or wall around it. It marks the area around the outlet and leaves more fuel outside, which is one more reason to keep it clean.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether they recommend a next date
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
- What hours they’ll be on site
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- How many systems or sites are involved
- The times the site is available
- Where the site is and how we reach it
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and the price is agreed before work begins.
Helping us quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
To get a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. We normally come back within one working day.
What the work involves, part by part
Inline duct fans
Space around an inline fan can be tight, so we plan how to reach and clean them. Anything out of reach is recorded.
Fan housings and motors
Motors and their electrics are kept dry and treated with care, and the fan is isolated throughout. Grease on and around the motor can trap heat, so we clean what we safely can.
Looking after it afterwards
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Look for grease stains near the discharge
- Keep records of every fan clean
- Tell us if the extract feels weaker
- Leave a clear route to the fan
A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If only the fan is cleaned, the photo report says so.
Stick to the interval for the full extract. Regular full cleans keep the fan from building up heavy deposits, in line with BESA guidance.
Common questions in the Isle of Wight
Do you offer extract fan cleaning separately?
Yes, a fan can be cleaned on its own. That helps when the fan needs attention before the next full clean, but it doesn’t replace a full TR19 clean.
What do you do to protect the area?
Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
How long does extract fan cleaning take?
Size, access and build-up all affect it. Typically it takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Every site has its own report.
Is it safe to clean the fan while the kitchen is open?
We always isolate the fan first, so it can’t run during the clean. That means the extract is off, so we clean while the kitchen is closed.
Do you cover the Isle of Wight?
Yes. We cover the Isle of Wight, as part of our work across South East England and London. For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
Why is my extract fan noisy?
Grease on the blades and housing is one of the usual causes, since uneven grease makes it run out of balance. It can also be wear in the bearings or motor, which our report will flag.
