TR19 cleaning across PO41

How kitchen extract cleaning works in PO41

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re often asked to deal with a kitchen taken over without any extract records and grease dripping from the canopy or filters, across extract fans, canopies and hoods and horizontal duct runs.

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time.

  1. We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
  5. Readings and photos are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

Pricing in PO41

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Get a fixed quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before any work starts.

What’s near Yarmouth

Around Yarmouth, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near Bugle Hotel, St. James' Church and Yarmouth Church of England Aided Primary School and the streets around them. Yarmouth’s nearest station is Lymington Pier station, about 3.9 miles north. Other landmarks nearby include Yarmouth Castle (under half a mile north-west) and Ferguson Family Museum (1.2 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include Lymington and Keyhaven Marshes Nature Reserve and Afton Down.

Kitchen extracts across PO41

In PO41, we work in places such as Barton, Hunny Hill and Cross Lane and well beyond. Every place on our PO41 list (15 in all) is covered, with cleans booked around trading hours.

London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. Wherever the site is in PO41, the work is done to the same TR19® standard. Along the coast in PO41, many hotels, pubs and cafés are at their busiest in the summer, so cleaning is often best booked before or after the peak season.

Yarmouth: If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Mottistone Manor is about 4.8 miles south-east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St. James' Church or elsewhere in Yarmouth, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

What happens if it’s left?

An overdue clean in PO41 is best dealt with now rather than after the next inspection. The job takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system, and we fit around your opening hours. Waiting only adds grease and risk.

What your quote should include

  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • Whether a survey comes first

For landlords and multi-site operators

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:

  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise right away
  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval

The kitchen is left clean and ready for the next service. Waste grease and water are contained and removed, so you can start cooking as normal.

Keep the fan on throughout service. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.

What we need to know

When you contact us, these details help:

  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • The site address and the type of premises

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Honest limits

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what kitchen extract cleaning won’t do:

  • Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • A canopy that is too small or a system that was badly designed

PO41: your questions answered

What do you do to protect the area?

By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.

What is TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked, and it takes a risk-based approach.

Is a quote from photos possible?

Yes, where the photos show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.

How long does it take to clean a kitchen extract system?

Allow one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one. We will confirm the time when we quote.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No law names TR19 directly, but the responsible person still has a legal duty under the Fire Safety Order 2005. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19 as the standard, and many policies require it.

How much notice do you need?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

Will my insurer ask for a TR19 certificate?

Because a dirty extract can spread a fire through a building. Many policies say the extract must be cleaned to TR19, and a claim may be reduced without proof, so keep every certificate.
