Kitchen extract cleaning across PO39: what to expect

We have been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. The work covers horizontal duct runs, canopies and hoods and plenums and filters, and people most often call us about a kitchen taken over without any extract records and rancid smells from grease in the duct.

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows.

  1. We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
  2. We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
  5. We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.

What’s near Totland

Around Totland, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near Colwell Bay Inn, Christ Church and St Saviour's Catholic Primary School and the streets around them. Well-known places in the area include Yarmouth Castle (2.5 miles north-east) and Dimbola Museum And Galleries (1.2 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Lymington and Keyhaven Marshes Nature Reserve and Tennyson Down.

Where we work in PO39

Our kitchen extract cleaning work across PO39 takes in places such as Totland and Colwell and the villages in between. Every place on our PO39 list (2 in all) is covered, with cleans booked around trading hours.

Across England, including PO39, the responsible person has a legal duty to assess and reduce fire risk, and each certificate and photo report is a record you can keep in your log book. Along the coast in PO39, many hotels, pubs and cafés are at their busiest in the summer, so cleaning is often best booked before or after the peak season.

Totland: Term dates shape school work: for a school like St Saviour's Catholic Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Christ Church, or anywhere in Totland, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Between visits

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
  • Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
  • Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow
  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise right away

If we couldn’t get into part of the duct, the report says so plainly. A TR19 report should record what wasn’t cleaned as well as what was, and we can fit access panels so it’s reached next time.

Stick to the cleaning interval on the certificate. BESA guidance links the minimum interval to daily cooking hours, so a change in hours may mean a change in interval, and grease readings will show it.

Why act early?

An overdue clean in PO39 is best dealt with now rather than after the next inspection. It takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system, and we work evenings, overnight and weekends so you do not lose a service. Waiting only adds grease and risk.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether VAT is included
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • Whether they recommend a next date

When it’s something else

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A damper that sticks or has a damaged link
  • Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
  • A duct that is holed or coming apart

For landlords and multi-site operators

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

Part by part

Extract fan and discharge

Attenuators, where fitted, can soak up grease and need attention. Where they can be cleaned, they are, and the report notes anything that cannot.

Restaurant and pub kitchens

A pub or restaurant cannot afford to cancel a service for a clean. Overnight and weekend cleans keep the kitchen trading, and hand back a clean kitchen ready to cook.

Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in PO39

What do you do with what you remove?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.

What does a TR19 kitchen extract clean include?

Every part the air passes through, as far as access allows. Sections with no access are listed on the report, and extra panels can be fitted.

How long will the clean take?

Short systems are done in a few hours, but large systems may be spread over more than one visit. Your quote says how long to expect.

Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?

As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, our work sits within an independently audited scheme. We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 too, and we’re fully insured.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we explain what access is needed, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

When do you clean the extract?

Out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. The equipment is switched off and left to cool, and we hand the kitchen back ready for the next service.

How much notice should we give?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.
