Grease Trap Cleaning in Oxfordshire

How grease trap cleaning works in Oxfordshire

Fats, oils and grease are the main cause of blocked kitchen drains. Further on, grease can build into fatbergs in the sewer. A well-maintained trap holds them back. Typical jobs include a kitchen drain that smells and a grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time, across under-sink grease traps, restaurants and takeaways and kitchen waste pipes.

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and pictures. The middle part takes longest, and that takes less than an hour for many under-sink units.

  1. First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
  4. The inside, baffles and pipe connections are cleaned.
  5. We put it back together, run water through and remove the waste.

Commercial kitchens across Oxfordshire

Our grease trap cleaning work across Oxfordshire takes in places such as Oxford, Banbury and Didcot and well beyond. Every place on our Oxfordshire list (443 in all) is covered, with work booked when the kitchen is closed.

London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. The same TR19® standard applies to all of them, in Oxfordshire and beyond.

Oxford: If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Warneford Hospital about less than half a mile east, deep cleans and grease trap visits are planned so meals still go out. Holywell Manor, about 0.8 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses around Oxford; event kitchens at places like that work in bursts, so a deep clean after a busy season helps.

Common problems we fix in Oxfordshire

Food scraps go down the sink with the washing-up water. It settles in the trap as solids and fill it from below.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • A larger grease trap that needs emptying
  • Gurgling from the sink waste
  • A grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time
  • Drains clogged with fat

Honest limits

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • Broken pipework below ground
  • Plumbing leaks around the sink
  • Grease set hard in the drain run

Part by part

Under-sink grease traps

Small grease traps sit under the sink. They fill quickly, so they need frequent emptying.

Baffles and outlets

Baffles inside the trap slow the water so grease can separate. They gather grease and debris so they’re cleaned every time.

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Keep the grease trap on a regular cleaning schedule
  • Tell us if your menu or hours change
  • Hot water only moves grease further down
  • Tell us when sinks start draining slowly

If we spot problems beyond the trap, such as a drain that still runs slowly, we’ll tell you. It may need a drainage specialist to look further.

Slow sinks and a bad smell are early warnings. Acting at this stage typically prevents a blockage later.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Oxfordshire questions

How regularly does a grease trap need emptying?

It varies. We look at how full the trap is and how quickly it fills and we will advise on timing.

What’s TR19?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked and expects a risk-based approach.

Where does the waste go?

We take it away when we go. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, as well as food production and leisure sites.

Do you provide a certificate or report?

Yes. Every visit ends with a written report and photos, showing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, there’s also a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What does a grease trap clean cost?

No two traps are quite the same, so we quote once we know what you have. We give you a fixed price, usually within one working day.

How far ahead should we book?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
