Kitchen extract cleaning in RG30: how it works
A closed kitchen isn’t earning, so the timing of a clean matters. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, or during holidays where a site closes for them. With the equipment off and cool and the area sheeted, we clean and hand the kitchen back ready for the next service. We’re often asked to deal with cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey and an extract that no longer clears the smoke, on canopies and hoods, extract fans and discharge points.
Each visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, make the system safe, carry out the kitchen extract cleaning, clear away and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time.
- We start with a survey, so we know every part of the system before we quote.
- Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before we start.
- With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
- The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
- Readings and photos are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Kitchen extracts across RG30
Kitchens across RG30 cook for very different hours, from all-day town-centre sites to part-time hall and school kitchens. The right interval comes from hours of use and grease readings.
Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites in RG30 can keep trading.
Norcot: For schools such as Meadow Park Academy, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Tilehurst Methodist Church or elsewhere in Norcot, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- A broken extract fan that won’t run
- Damaged duct sections that need replacing
- Extraction that can’t cope with the cooking because of its design
Why it fails
In RG30, as anywhere, grease gathers where the air slows down: in long flat runs, at bends and changes of direction, and in the fan housing. Cooler sections of duct collect the most.
Common reasons sites call us are:
- A kitchen taken over without any extract records
- A system with no record of a TR19 clean
- A smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction
- An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
Between visits
Results last longer with the right care. We suggest:
- Do not let the canopy gutters overflow
- Wash or exchange the filters often
- Switch the fan on before cooking starts
- Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
You get a photo report after every clean. It shows the system before and after, part by part, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.
Tell whoever looks after the system when something changes. Drips, odours and fan noise often mean grease is building, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.
Different parts, different methods
Ductwork and risers
Bends and changes of direction trap more grease than straight runs. We test at points like these before and after cleaning, so the report shows the difference.
Restaurant and pub kitchens
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens often cook for long hours, frying and grilling, so their cleaning interval is often 3 or 6 months under BESA guidance. We clean after close or before opening.
RG30: your questions answered
How far ahead should we book?
The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. We typically quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
What information do you need?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?
Under BESA guidance, the minimum depends on how long you cook each day: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Measured grease levels set the real interval.
Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?
We are members of Vent Hygiene Elite, the scheme run by BESCA, and we clean to BESA TR19® Grease. We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 too, and we’re fully insured.
What do you do with what you remove?
Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.
Do we have to close the kitchen for the clean?
Cleans are timed to avoid service. Most kitchens book us overnight or at weekends, so you do not lose a service.
