Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Merton
Once a trap is full, grease passes straight through. Further down the pipe, the grease cools and hardens and the result is blocked drains and bad smells. A trap that is cleaned regularly keeps grease where it belongs. Typical jobs include a blocked kitchen drain caused by grease and a regular cleaning plan for the grease trap, across restaurants and takeaways, kitchen waste pipes and under-sink grease traps.
For a kitchen in or near Merton, the visit is planned ahead, around opening times and the journey.
Every visit ends with a written report and pictures, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Grease trap cleaning around Merton
According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 3 bars, pubs and nightclubs across Merton and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Wherever they cook, the kitchen and its drains need the same attention as a restaurant’s. At about 52 miles from central London, Merton sits well inside the area we cover. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included. In Merton, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Cherwell council. Walls, floors, ceilings and equipment are all part of what they look at. Having the dates of the last deep clean to hand saves digging for them on the day.
Bicester Community Hospital, about 2.9 miles north, is the nearest hospital to Merton; healthcare kitchens cannot stop cooking, so deep cleans are worked around meal times. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Swithin or elsewhere in Merton, a deep clean and an emptied grease trap before a busy season of events are worth booking.
Merton is about 3 miles south of Bicester, in Oxfordshire. Across the OX25 area, we can carry out grease trap cleaning at your premises. Merton is one of 443 places in Oxfordshire we cover for grease trap cleaning. Oxford is in our area too, about 8 miles from Merton.

Between visits
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:
- Tell us if your menu or hours change
- Keep access to the trap clear
- Keep the grease trap on a regular cleaning schedule
- Scrape plates and pans into the bin before washing up
Between cleans, keep food scraps out of the sink. Use strainers in the sink plugholes before they reach the trap.
Slow sinks and a bad smell are early warnings. Getting it cleaned now can stop a full blockage down the line.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.
What we are called out for in Merton
Hot washing-up water keeps grease liquid for a while. When it cools, the grease hardens in the pipework or the drain.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- A kitchen drain that smells
- Drains that gurgle and bubble
- A regular cleaning plan for the grease trap
- An overdue grease trap
If you run event catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Boarstall Tower is about 3.7 miles south-east), a deep clean before or after the busy season is worth planning.

- Whether the figure could change on the day
Managing agents and facilities teams in Merton
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.
What grease trap cleaning can’t fix
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- A unit that can’t cope with the kitchen’s output
- A leaking sink waste or trap connection
- Broken pipework below ground
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think before booking.
What the work covers
- Kitchen waste pipes
- Under-sink grease traps
- Pot wash sinks
- School and care home kitchens
- Inline grease traps
- Restaurants and takeaways
How the visit works
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Merton, let us know and we will plan around it.
- We locate the trap and check how it’s fitted.
- Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
- We empty out the fat, oil, grease and solids.
- We clean every part of the inside.
- The trap is refitted, tested with water and the waste taken away.
Getting ready for the visit
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
Getting a quote
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Advice
Merton questions
Do you work in villages like Merton?
Yes. Merton is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Can you come to Merton after we close?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. Your customers, staff or residents in Merton needn’t be disturbed. When you call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, mention when the site is quiet.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. TR19® itself isn’t law; it’s a BESA specification. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.
Where does the grease from the trap go?
We take it away. There’s nothing left for your team to deal with after we’ve finished.
Will you tell us when the next visit is due?
Yes. The recommended date is on the report. BESA’s minimum intervals for kitchen extracts range from 3-monthly for heavy use to 12-monthly for light use, and fire dampers need testing at least once a year.
What do you do to protect the area?
We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before we start, and waste is contained as we go. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it and the fixed quote is built on it.
How long will the sinks be out of use?
Most grease trap cleans take an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit, including testing. We plan the visit around your service.
