Kitchen extract cleaning across E6: what to expect
A kitchen extract system is far more than the canopy you can see. Beyond the filters run the plenum, the ducts and risers, the fan and the point where air leaves the building, and each part collects grease. A TR19® Grease clean deals with the whole route, not only the parts on show. Common call-outs are for missing paperwork after a change of operator and a TR19 certificate needed for the insurer, across plenums and filters, vertical risers and discharge points.
Your staff do not need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows.
- You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
- On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
- Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
- We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.
What affects the price in E6
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email for straight advice and a fixed quote.
What you get with us
- Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
- Ventilation hygiene specialists since 2009
- Fixed quotes, typically within one working day
- A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
Getting a quote
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.

Kitchen extracts across E6
Our kitchen extract cleaning work across E6 takes in places such as Plaistow, Canning Town and Barking and the villages in between. We cover every place we list for E6, 13 in all, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.
In England, the Fire Safety Order puts the duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and each certificate and photo report is a record you can keep in your log book.
East Ham: If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Eastbury Manor House is about 1.9 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. School kitchens, at schools like St Michael's Catholic Primary School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
When something else is needed
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- A damper that sticks or has a damaged link
- A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
- Fat blocking the kitchen drains
Aftercare tips
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:
- Switch the fan on before cooking starts
- Refit filters properly after cleaning
- File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
- Keep the baffle filters clean
We hand the kitchen back clean, with the sheeting removed and waste taken away. Waste grease and water are contained and removed, and equipment can be switched back on once we have gone.
Wipe the canopy down regularly and empty grease troughs or collection points. It will not replace a TR19 clean, but it slows what reaches the duct.
Fixed quotes for kitchen extract cleaning in E6
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Any permits to work or inductions
- How many systems or sites are involved
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.
Asking for a quote
A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- A few general shots of the system
- Any previous report or certificate
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before work begins.
For landlords and multi-site operators
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in E6 and across Greater London. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
E6 questions
What’s TR19?
It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.
When do you clean the extract?
When the kitchen is closed, at whatever time suits you. We need the equipment cool, and we leave the kitchen ready to cook.
Is a quote from photos possible?
Yes, where the photos show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.
How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?
Under BESA guidance, the minimum depends on how long you cook each day: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Grease readings can show a shorter interval is needed.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. We always survey first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. Then you get a fixed quote.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.
Where does the waste go?
It leaves the site with us when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.
