How kitchen extract cleaning works in E15
A closed kitchen isn’t earning, so the timing of a clean matters. Cleans are booked for evenings, overnight or weekends, or during holidays where a site closes for them. With the equipment off and cool and the area sheeted, we clean and hand the kitchen back ready for the next service. The work covers vertical risers, discharge points and canopies and hoods, and people most often call us about extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit and a new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history.
Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
- We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
- After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
- Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
- Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.
What affects the price in E15
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Around Stratford
Typical jobs here are in premises near West Ham Park, Carpenters Primary School and Stratford Circus. You’ll also find The Two Puddings pub (under half a mile south-east), Church of St John the Evangelist (within half a mile east) and Sarah Bonnell School (less than half a mile east). There’s a railway station in Stratford itself: Stratford (London) station. Nearby you’ll also find Stratford Centre (under half a mile south-east) and V&A East (0.5 miles west). Green spaces nearby include Hollow Pond and Old Ford Island.
Kitchen extracts across E15
In E15, we work in places such as Leyton, Stratford and Forest Gate and well beyond. We cover every place we list for E15, 13 in all, with cleans booked around trading hours.
London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. The same TR19® standard applies to all of them, in E15 and beyond.
Stratford: Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Sutton House is about 2.1 miles west), access may need planning. If you run a café or takeaway near Stratford (London) station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.
Common problems we fix in E15
Grease in an extract starts as vapour. As the air cools on its way through the duct, the fat condenses and sticks, building a layer that gets thicker with every service. The grease filters stop some, never all of it.
What we are most often called out for:
- Extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit
- Grease drips onto cooking equipment
- Grease smells coming from the extract
- Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
When it’s something else
Kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It will not put right:
- Extraction that can’t cope with the cooking because of its design
- A broken extract fan that will not run
- Damaged duct sections that need replacing
Managing agents and facilities teams in E15
From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.
Between visits
After the visit, a few habits help the work last:
- Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
- Switch the fan on before cooking starts
- Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow
- File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
You get a photo report after every clean. Before and after photos show each part of the system, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.
Clean the grease filters often, not just on clean day. A filter that is clean and seated properly stops more grease getting into the plenum, which slows build-up further down the system.
E15: your questions answered
Why do insurers care about extract cleaning?
Many insurers ask for proof of regular cleaning to TR19, and many policies require it. Without proof, a claim can be refused or reduced, so it’s worth checking your policy wording.
What information do you need?
Some pictures and a quick description of the system plus the address and your hours. If we need more, we will ask.
Is a quote from pictures possible?
Yes, if we can see what we need. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.
How far ahead should we book?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
What accreditations do you hold?
We are members of Vent Hygiene Elite, the scheme run by BESCA, and we clean to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.
Do you clean the whole extract system or just the canopy?
Every part the air passes through, as far as access allows. Where there aren’t enough access panels to reach a section, it’s recorded, and we can fit new ones.
What do you do to protect the area?
We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before we start, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
