About kitchen extract cleaning in E4
The ducts are where most of the grease hides. Access panels let us into the duct runs and risers, scraping heavy deposits by hand before degreasing. Any section we can’t reach is recorded on the report and extra access panels can be added. The work covers extract fans, plenums and filters and horizontal duct runs, and the jobs we see most are an extract that no longer clears the smoke and an extract that has never been cleaned to TR19.
When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the photos you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, the work takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one.
- We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
- We take grease readings at set points and give you a fixed quote.
- On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
- Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
- Readings are repeated, pictures taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.
How we quote
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Kitchen extract cleaning across E4: local notes
Across E4, from Walthamstow, Woodford and Chingford outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.
Across England, including E4, the responsible person has a legal duty to assess and reduce fire risk, and a TR19® certificate and photo report give you a record of the work.
Chingford: Church and community hall kitchens, near All Saints' Church or anywhere around Chingford, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Parkside Primary School or anywhere near Chingford, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
Why deal with it now?
An overdue clean in E4 is best dealt with now rather than after the next inspection. It takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one, and we work evenings, overnight and weekends so you don’t lose a service. Waiting only adds grease and risk.
What your quote should include
- Whether the quote shows VAT
- Proof of insurance
- What records you’ll receive afterwards
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
- Damaged duct sections that need replacing
- A broken extract fan that will not run
Common problems we fix in E4
We often find duct sections that haven’t been cleaned since they were installed. Most of the time it’s because there were never enough access panels, so those sections were never reached. Grease in those sections keeps building out of sight.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- An inspection that picked up a dirty extract
- Poor airflow at the canopy
- Cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey
- A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
Managing agents and facilities teams in E4
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.
Keeping the system healthy
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
- Give the canopy a daily wipe
- Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit
- Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
When the clean is finished, grease readings are taken again at the same points, giving you before and after readings alongside the pictures. Your TR19 certificate is then issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
Wipe the canopy down regularly and empty grease troughs or collection points. A daily wipe is not a deep clean, but it helps between visits.
Questions from E4
Does the law say I must clean to TR19?
TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve dealt with extract grease.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.
Will my insurer ask for a TR19 certificate?
Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and insurers often ask to see the certificate. Without proof, a claim can be refused or reduced, so it’s worth checking your policy wording.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
How far ahead should we book?
For planned work, earlier is better, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.
