Kitchen extract cleaning across E18: what to expect
Any kitchen we clean in E18 gets exactly the same specification as everywhere else we work. We survey first and take grease readings, then clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, fan and discharge. At the finish there’s a TR19 certificate and a before and after photo report. The work covers vertical risers, canopies and hoods and discharge points, and common reasons people get in touch are proof of cleaning requested by an insurer and poor airflow at the canopy.
There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
- Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
- After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
- Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
- Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.
What you will pay
Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.
What you get with us
- A written report with photos after every visit
- Ventilation hygiene specialists since 2009
- Full insurance on every job
- Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
How to get a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before we start.

Where we work in E18
From Woodford, Wanstead and South Woodford to its smaller places, E18 has kitchens of every size. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.
London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. The same TR19® standard applies to all of them, in E18 and beyond.
South Woodford: Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Valentines Mansion is about 2.3 miles south-east), access may need planning. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Oakdale Infants' School or anywhere near South Woodford, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
When something else is needed
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Extraction that can’t cope with the cooking because of its design
- Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
- A duct that is holed or coming apart
What we’re called out for in E18
In E18, as anywhere, grease gathers where the air slows down: long horizontal runs, bends, the base of risers and around the fan. Cooler sections of duct collect the most.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Grease smells coming from the extract
- Poor airflow at the canopy
- Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
- A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.
What happens if it’s left?
Every week without a clean adds another layer. Under BESA guidance, grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere reaching 500 microns or more needs a spot clean right away. The longer it’s left, the bigger the job becomes.
Comparing quotes
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- What insurance they carry
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
- Whether they recommend a next date
Part by part
Extract fan and discharge
Attenuators, where fitted, can soak up grease and need attention. We clean what can be reached and note anything that can’t.
Schools, hospitals and care homes
Some healthcare kitchens never fully close. Cleans are planned between meals or overnight, so residents and patients are not disturbed.
FAQs for E18
When do you clean the extract?
When the kitchen is closed, at whatever time suits you. The equipment is switched off and left to cool, and we hand the kitchen back ready for the next service.
Is E18 in your area?
Yes. We work in E18 and the rest of Greater London, as part of our work across South East England and London. For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
How far ahead should we book?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
Which sectors do you work in?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
What accreditations do you hold?
Our work is to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, and certificates go through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. We have been trading since 2009.
Will I get a certificate after the clean?
You get both a certificate and a photo report. Keep them in the maintenance log with the fire risk assessment so they’re to hand when an insurer asks.
Can you quote from pictures?
Yes, where the pictures show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.
