Kitchen extract cleaning in EN3: how it works
We have been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. The work covers canopies and hoods, plenums and filters and horizontal duct runs, and the jobs we see most are cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey and an extract that has never been cleaned to TR19.
A visit follows the same order every time: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the kitchen extract cleaning, tidy up and leave you the report. On site, the work takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
- Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
- After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
- Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
- Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.
What affects the price in EN3
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.
Why choose Duct Doctor
- We diagnose before we treat
- Full insurance on every job
- Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus 24/7 emergency callout

Getting a quote
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few pictures and any previous report or certificate. Then call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
What’s near Ponders End
Around Ponders End, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near Enfield Town Park, Oasis Academy Hadley and St Matthews Church, among other places. You’ll also find St Matthew's CofE Primary School (under half a mile north) and NiW Furniture pub (0.8 miles south-west). There’s a railway station in Ponders End itself: Ponders End station. A little further out are St Michaels Hospital (2.2 miles north-west) and Museum of Enfield (1.7 miles west). For a walk, there’s Highams Park Lake and Ainslie Wood.
Kitchen extracts across EN3
From Ponders End, Enfield Highway and Enfield Wash to its smaller places, EN3 has kitchens of every size. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.
From central London kitchens to coastal hotels and country pubs, London and the South East have every kind of site. Wherever the site is in EN3, the work is done to the same TR19® standard.
Ponders End: If you run a café or takeaway near Ponders End station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Ponders End is St Michaels Hospital, about 2.2 miles north-west.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so each one has its own record.
When it’s something else
We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:
- Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
- A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
- A fan motor that has burnt out
Different parts, different methods
Restaurant and pub kitchens
High-heat cooking loads the extract with grease, so grease readings help set the right interval.
Canopy and plenum
Whether it’s one hood or a long island canopy, every section is cleaned and recorded in the photo report before and after.
What we are called out for in EN3
Grease in an extract starts as vapour. As the air cools on its way through the duct, the fat condenses and sticks, and the layer grows a little with every meal cooked. Filters catch some of it, but never all.
Look out for these warning signs:
- Years of baked-on grease in the ducts
- A kitchen taken over without any extract records
- Cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey
- An extract that no longer clears the smoke
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
EN3 questions
Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?
Our work is to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, and certificates go through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
What about areas you can’t get to?
We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.
Will my insurer ask for a TR19 certificate?
Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and insurers often ask to see the certificate. Without proof, a claim can be refused or reduced, so it’s worth checking your policy wording.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.
Can you price the work without visiting?
Yes, where the pictures show enough. If not, a site survey comes first, and the quote follows that.
What does a TR19 kitchen extract clean include?
Everything from canopy to discharge: canopy inside and out, plenum, grease filters, ductwork, risers, extract fan and discharge, plus attenuators where fitted. Any part without access is noted.
