Our kitchen extract cleaning service in SE16

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. Typical jobs include a TR19 certificate needed for the insurer and a system with no record of a TR19 clean, on vertical risers, discharge points and horizontal duct runs.

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
  2. We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

How we quote

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before we start.

What you get with us

  • In business since 2009
  • A written report with pictures after each visit
  • BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line

Ask for a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Around Rotherhithe

In Rotherhithe, that means kitchens and buildings near St Mellitus College, Alfred Salter Primary School and Holy Trinity Church. You’ll also find Bacon's College (within half a mile north), Russia Dock Woodland (within half a mile north-east) and The Ship York pub (within half a mile east). Rotherhithe has its own railway station: Canada Water station. A little further out are St Olave's Hospital (0.5 miles west) and Tower of London (1.6 miles north-west). Green spaces nearby include St. James's Park Lake and Tower Hill.

Kitchen extracts across SE16

From Bermondsey, Rotherhithe and Shadwell to its smaller places, SE16 has kitchens of every size. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.

Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites in SE16 can keep trading.

Rotherhithe: A hospital like St Olave's Hospital, about 0.5 miles west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Holy Trinity Church or elsewhere in Rotherhithe, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:

  • The times the site is available
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • What state the system is in

Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you’ll typically have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
  • Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains

Part by part

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Even a kitchen that cooks only a few hours a day needs cleaning at least every 12 months under BESA guidance. Holidays make it simple to schedule.

Grease filters

Between TR19 cleans, filters still need regular cleaning and we offer a filter exchange service for that. Keeping them clean helps the rest of the system stay cleaner.

Why act early?

Any food business in SE16 can expect visits from the council’s environmental health officers, and they look at the cleanliness of the premises and equipment, extraction included. Keeping the extract clean helps the whole kitchen pass muster.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How they set the interval to the next visit
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether a written report and photos are included

Multi-site and managed buildings

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

SE16: your questions answered

What information do you need?

Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Is a quote from photos possible?

Yes, where the photos show enough. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.

Do insurers need proof of extract cleaning?

Many insurers ask for proof of regular cleaning to TR19, and many policies require it. Without proof, a claim can be refused or reduced, so it’s worth checking your policy wording.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. For many sites, pictures and a few details are enough, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked and expects a risk-based approach.

Will I get a certificate after the clean?

You receive a TR19 certificate and a photo report. Certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, and the report shows before and after photos, readings, any areas not reached and the next clean date.
