Kitchen extract cleaning across RG1: what to expect
Has the extract gone a while without a clean, or has the paperwork gone missing? Send a few pictures of the canopy and filters when you phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and you will have a fixed quote for kitchen extract cleaning in RG1, usually within one working day. Typical jobs include an overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer and missing paperwork after a change of operator, across horizontal duct runs, vertical risers and plenums and filters.
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
- Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
- After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
- The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
- Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.
What you’ll pay
What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

Kitchen extract cleaning across RG1: local notes
Kitchens across RG1 cook for very different hours, from all-day town-centre sites to part-time hall and school kitchens. The right interval comes from hours of use and grease readings.
Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites in RG1 can keep trading.
Newtown: For schools such as New Town Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Royal Berkshire Hospital (about 0.6 miles south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
How we price kitchen extract cleaning
The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- The scale of the work
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
What to send for a quote
What to send for a quote:
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Multi-site and managed buildings
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.
Why deal with it now?
A clogged extract does not only raise the fire risk. Filters block, airflow drops and the kitchen gets hotter and smokier and the fan strains to keep up. Grease drips, smells and condensation are common next.
What your quote should include
- Proof of insurance
- Whether a survey comes first
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- Whether the figure could change on the day
What staff can safely do
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
Common problems we fix in RG1
A kitchen in RG1 builds up grease in the same places as any other: long horizontal runs, bends, the base of risers and around the fan. Cooler sections of duct collect the most.
The symptoms we are asked about most are:
- Grease dripping from the canopy or filters
- An extract that no longer clears the smoke
- Ductwork thick with old, hardened grease
- Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in RG1
What do I get after the clean?
A TR19 certificate and a photo report. Certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, and the report shows before and after pictures, readings, any areas not reached and the next clean date.
Do you clean the whole extract system or just the canopy?
Everything from canopy to discharge: canopy inside and out, plenum, grease filters, ductwork, risers, extract fan and discharge, plus attenuators where fitted. Any part without access is noted.
What happens if you can’t reach some of it?
We never leave them off the paperwork. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.
Will my insurer ask for a TR19 certificate?
Extract grease is fuel for a kitchen fire, which is why many insurers require TR19 cleaning. Our certificate and photo report give you that evidence.
Does the law say I must clean to TR19?
Strictly, the legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not from TR19. TR19 is the industry benchmark for meeting that duty in a kitchen extract, and many insurers ask for proof of it.
What do you do to protect the area?
By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.
Will the clean disrupt our service?
Cleans are timed to avoid service. Overnight, weekend and between-service cleans are all possible, so you don’t lose a service.
