How kitchen extract cleaning works in RG2
Think of it as a health check for the kitchen’s airways: survey first, clean second, sign-off last. That clean bill of health comes as a TR19 certificate and a photo report, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Typical jobs include an extract that has never been cleaned to TR19 and poor airflow at the canopy, on canopies and hoods, horizontal duct runs and vertical risers.
Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
- We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
- After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
- The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
- Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.

Kitchen extract cleaning across RG2: local notes
In RG2, a busy kitchen in a place such as Earley, Shinfield and Arborfield Garrison and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. Grease readings and BESA’s minimum intervals set the schedule for each.
Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites across RG2 do not have to lose a day.
Shinfield: Historic houses near Shinfield, such as Stratfield Saye House about 4.5 miles south-west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Mary the Virgin or elsewhere in Shinfield, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.
What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Faulty fire dampers in the duct
- A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
- A duct that’s holed or coming apart
Why deal with it now?
Any food business in RG2 can expect visits from the council’s environmental health officers, and they look at the cleanliness of the premises and equipment, extraction included. Keeping the extract clean helps the whole kitchen pass muster.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
Part by part
Ductwork and risers
Risers take the extract up through floors to roof level, and grease runs down their walls and pools at the base. They’re cleaned through access points along their height.
Canopy and plenum
The plenum is out of sight behind the filters, so it’s easy to forget. We take the filters out and clean the plenum and housing thoroughly.
Keeping the system healthy
Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:
- Wash or exchange the filters often
- Refit filters properly after cleaning
- Keep the TR19 certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
- Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
A TR19 certificate notes the date, the location and the technician. Keep it in the maintenance log with your fire risk assessment so it’s ready when anyone asks to see it.
Keep the fan on throughout service. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.
Questions from RG2
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.
Is RG2 in your area?
Yes. Our technicians work in RG2, as part of our area across London and the South East.
What do you do to protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before work begins, and waste is contained as we go. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.
What does a TR19 kitchen extract clean include?
Everything from canopy to discharge: the canopy, the plenum behind the filters, the filters, horizontal ducts, vertical risers, the fan and the discharge, plus attenuators where fitted. Anything we cannot reach is recorded on the report.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
Will the clean disrupt our service?
Out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. We need the equipment cool, and we leave the kitchen ready to cook.
