Kitchen extract cleaning across Earley

Kitchen duct cleaning in Earley

The part of the system nobody sees is often the dirtiest. We reach horizontal runs and vertical risers through access panels, removing thick grease by hand, then using degreasers, hot water or steam to suit the deposit. Any section we cannot reach is recorded on the report, and new panels can be fitted. The work covers plenums and filters, horizontal duct runs and extract fans, and people most often call us about cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey and a kitchen with no current TR19 certificate. Searching for commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Earley? We’ve been cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member.

Kitchens that fry and grill hardest need the most frequent cleans, so the interval is set by what you cook as well as how long.

For a pub, café or restaurant in a town like Earley, losing a day’s trade to cleaning isn’t an option, so cleans are booked after closing, early in the morning or on a quiet day. By the next service, the kitchen is ready to cook in again.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in Earley

Which council inspects kitchens in Earley?

Food hygiene inspections in Earley are carried out by Wokingham council. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Earley during the holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Around Earley, the Food Standards Agency lists about 20 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Where does the waste go?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. We do not leave it behind.

How long will the clean take?

It takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time. The survey tells us how long your system will need.

Why do insurers care about extract cleaning?

Because a dirty extract can spread a fire through a building. Many insurers require TR19 cleaning, and may refuse or reduce a claim without proof, so keep every certificate.

What accreditations do you hold?

We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 sit alongside that, and we’re fully insured.

What do you do to protect the area?

By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and clean down when we finish.

When do you clean the extract?

Cleans are timed to avoid service. Most kitchens book us overnight or at weekends and the kitchen is ready to cook when we leave.

Why act early in Earley

Every week without a clean adds another layer. Under BESA guidance, grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere reaching 500 microns or more needs a spot clean right away. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans. A small fault found now is a quick job; the same fault found later can close the site.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

The process

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time. A few photos of the system and its access points help us plan a visit in Earley.

  1. You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
  2. Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
  3. The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
  4. We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, pictures taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

Grease, kitchens and Earley

Food Standards Agency records list about 72 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 43 takeaways and sandwich shops in and around Earley, up to about a mile and a half out. Each one that cooks under a canopy has an extract system that collects grease and needs regular cleaning. Kitchens in Earley get their food hygiene inspections from Wokingham council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Fire safety in Earley falls to Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Radstock Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. If you run a café or takeaway near Earley station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.

What we are called out for in Earley

We often find duct sections that haven’t been cleaned since they were installed. The usual reason is a lack of access panels, so nobody could get to them. Grease in those sections keeps building out of sight.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
  • A kitchen taken over without any extract records
  • Stale cooking odours from the system
  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer

A hospital like Royal Berkshire Hospital, about 1.7 miles north-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Questions to ask before booking

What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Ductwork that is corroded, split or leaking (that is for a ductwork contractor)
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Where we work

  • Discharge points
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Plenums and filters
  • Extract fans
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers

Different parts, different methods

Extract fan and discharge

The fan pulls the air through the whole system, and grease that gets past everything else ends up on its blades. We isolate it, open it up and degrease it.

Grease filters

Baffle filters are cleaned as part of every TR19 clean, and refitted so they sit properly in the housing. Damaged ones are noted on the report.

Keeping the system healthy

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Keep grease collection points emptied
  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Never cook with filters missing or out of place
  • Wash or exchange the filters often

The kitchen is left clean and ready for the next service. Waste grease and water are contained and removed, so you can start cooking as normal.

Tell whoever looks after the system when something changes. Drips, odours and fan noise often mean grease is building, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.
