Grease trap cleaning in North Street, done properly

A grease trap is the kitchen drain’s first line of protection. When it’s looked after, you hardly know it’s there but left too long, it causes trouble. A regular clean keeps it healthy. If you have a kitchen drain that smells and gurgling from the sink waste, we can put it right, from under-sink grease traps, pot wash sinks and inline grease traps onwards.

Rural kitchens may drain to a septic tank or a private drain rather than straight into a public sewer, so keeping fat out with a working grease trap matters even more.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with pictures of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

How the job changes from site to site

Baffles and outlets

We check the inlet, outlet and baffles at each clean so water flows freely.

Inline grease traps

Several sinks may drain into one inline trap. More waste means faster filling.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes anything from under an hour to a few hours, depending on the trap, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Somewhere like North Street, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
  4. Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
  5. The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

FAQs for North Street

Can you get to a site in North Street?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, North Street included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can the work in North Street be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in North Street keeps running as normal. When you phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, mention when the site is quiet.

Will we have to shut during the visit?

Normally not. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits to keep things running.

What accreditations do you have?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

Why does a grease trap need regular cleaning?

Grease escapes into the drains when the trap is full. It sets there and narrows the pipes until they block. Keeping the trap clean stops that happening.

Is TR19 cleaning required by law?

No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.

How long does a grease trap clean take?

A typical clean takes anything from under an hour to a few hours, depending on the trap, including testing. It’s booked when the sinks are not needed.

What do you do with the waste?

It’s removed from site when we leave. Your staff do not have to handle it once the clean is done.

Food Standards Agency data counts about 4 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within about 1.5 miles of central North Street. Fat from washing up sets hard in pipes, and kitchens like these produce plenty of it. In North Street, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Medway council. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. A record of each deep clean helps show the kitchen is kept in order. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Medway Maritime Hospital (about 4.9 miles south-west), cook for long hours, so deep cleans and grease trap work are planned around patients’ meals.

Common problems we fix in North Street

If a trap is not emptied, grease passes straight through. It goes on into the drain and the sewer beyond, where it can form blockages.

The symptoms we are asked about most include:

  • Gurgling from the sink waste
  • An inline trap or interceptor due for cleaning
  • An under-sink unit that needs regular emptying
  • Drains clogged with fat

If you look after a hall kitchen near Church of St Peter and St Paul or anywhere in North Street, a deep clean between busy seasons is easier than a scramble before a big event.

Before you book anyone

  • How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • How they set the interval to the next visit

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

Why deal with it now?

A smelly, overflowing trap attracts pests. Keeping the trap clean removes something they’re looking for as part of a clean kitchen. Somewhere as small as North Street, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

How we price grease trap cleaning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • How big the system is
  • The number of sites or systems

Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What to send for a quote

We can often survey from pictures. The most useful are:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

Want a quote for grease trap cleaning? Please ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us about the site. We will explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Looking after it afterwards

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Do not wait for a blockage to book a clean
  • Don’t rely on hot water to clear grease
  • Tell us if your menu or hours change
  • Tell us when sinks start draining slowly

We take the grease and solids away. There’s no greasy waste left on site when we are done.

A trap that’s left too long stops catching grease. Regular emptying keeps it working and avoids a blockage.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
