Canopy cleaning in Windsor and Maidenhead: how it works

Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Typical jobs include greasy streaks across the canopy and filters that never seem to stay clean, on grease gutters, plenum chambers and island canopies.

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the pictures you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, it takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by photos or in person.
  2. Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.

What affects the price in Windsor and Maidenhead

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

What’s near Maidenhead

In Maidenhead, that means kitchens and buildings near Boyne Hill CofE Infant and Nursery School, Desborough College and Braywick Park and the streets around them. You’ll also find All Saints' Church (under half a mile south-west), Claires Court Schools (within half a mile north) and The Windsor Castle pub (less than half a mile north-west). Maidenhead’s nearest station is Maidenhead station, about 0.5 miles south-east. Nearby you’ll also find The Reitlinger Bequest Museum (1.2 miles east) and St Mark's Hospital (0.6 miles west). For a walk, there’s Weycock Hill and Taplow Lake.

Kitchen extracts across Windsor and Maidenhead

In Windsor and Maidenhead, we work in places such as Maidenhead, Windsor and Boyn Hill and well beyond. Every place on our Windsor and Maidenhead list (57 in all) is covered, with cleans booked around trading hours.

Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites in Windsor and Maidenhead can keep trading.

Maidenhead: Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as St Mark's Hospital (about 0.6 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Claires Court Schools or anywhere near Maidenhead, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

What happens if it’s left?

If the canopy waits for the next full clean, grease keeps adding up. Some kitchens need the canopy cleaning more often than the whole system, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

What your team can do, and what needs us

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Part by part

Island canopies

Island canopies often have filters on two sides. We work round the canopy, cleaning each filter bank and plenum.

School and staff canteen kitchens

Canteens and school kitchens tend to run to a timetable, which makes a canopy clean easy to schedule. Holidays and weekends work well.

When something else is needed

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • A canopy undersized for the equipment
  • Bent or broken filters
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system

Windsor and Maidenhead questions

Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?

Wall canopies, island canopies and single hoods over individual appliances. Each one is cleaned inside and out, with the plenum behind the filters.

Do we lose a day’s trading?

Normally not. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits so parts stay in use.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

The law calls them the responsible person. It’s normally the employer, or whoever controls the building, and where several people have control, each can have duties. If you’re not sure, check your lease and fire risk assessment.

What about areas you cannot get to?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

How far ahead should we book?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

Where does the waste go?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.
