Kitchen extract cleaning in RG10

How kitchen extract cleaning works in RG10

Few kitchens can stop cooking for a day so the extract can be cleaned. Cleans are booked for evenings, overnight or weekends, or between services where the kitchen has a gap. With the equipment off and cool and the area sheeted, we clean and hand the kitchen back ready for the next service. The work covers discharge points, vertical risers and horizontal duct runs, and common reasons people get in touch are grease smells coming from the extract and extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit.

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the photos you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, the work takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.

  1. We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before work begins.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
  5. Readings and photos are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

Kitchen extract cleaning across RG10: local notes

Our kitchen extract cleaning work across RG10 takes in places such as Woodley, Winnersh and Twyford and the villages in between. Every place on our RG10 list (20 in all) is covered, with cleans booked around trading hours.

Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites in RG10 can keep trading.

Twyford: For kitchens close to Twyford station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Mary or anywhere around Twyford, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • The size of the system
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

What to send for a quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • A few general shots of the system
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

What the work involves, part by part

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Restaurants and pubs tend to cook long hours with plenty of frying and grilling, which can put them in BESA’s 3 or 6-monthly bands. We clean after close or before opening.

Ductwork and risers

Horizontal runs collect grease as the air slows and cools. Each run is cleaned through its access panels, recording any that can’t be reached.

When it’s something else

Kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • A duct that’s holed or coming apart
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • Extraction that can’t cope with the cooking because of its design

Signs you need kitchen extract cleaning

Grease filters are the first line of defence, and they’re often the weak point. Damaged, missing or overloaded filters let grease straight past, and it doesn’t stop until it reaches the fan.

Most sites get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • Rancid smells from grease in the duct
  • Years of baked-on grease in the ducts
  • Grease dripping from the canopy or filters
  • Poor airflow at the canopy

What staff can safely do

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Common questions in RG10

Will I get a certificate after the clean?

Yes, a TR19 certificate, along with a photo report. The report lists what was cleaned, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next clean is due.

Do you work in RG10?

Yes. We cover RG10 and across Wokingham, within our South East and London area. To book, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

How much notice do you need?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Often, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.

Do insurers need proof of extract cleaning?

Grease in an extract is a known fire risk, so many insurers want evidence it’s being cleaned to TR19. Each clean gives you a certificate and photo report to show them.

When do you clean the extract?

When the kitchen is closed, at whatever time suits you. We need the equipment cool, and we leave the kitchen ready to cook.
