Canopy cleaning in Ascot

Canopy cleaning in Ascot

Canopy cleaning is part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but a canopy can also need cleaning on its own, between full system cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. We are often asked to deal with a greasy hood noticed by an inspector and condensation and grease dripping together, across plenum chambers, canopy light fittings and grease gutters.

In a small place like Ascot, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

What a clean won’t put right

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Grease gutters
  • Island canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Wall canopies

How it works

Your staff do not need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Ascot, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by photos or in person.
  2. Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
  3. We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
  4. The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.

Before we arrive

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

Getting a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before work begins.

Ascot questions

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Ascot?

That is Windsor and Maidenhead council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Ascot. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Do you cover smaller places like Ascot?

Yes, Ascot is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

What is TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that can’t wait. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

Is the inside of the hood cleaned?

Inside and out, along with its seams and grease channels. The plenum and filter housing behind the filters are cleaned too.

What does canopy cleaning cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. We fix the price before we start.

Why does grease run off the canopy edge?

Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.

Canopy cleaning around Ascot

Look up Ascot on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 32 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 3 sandwich bars and takeaways across Ascot and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Every kitchen among them that cooks under a canopy has a hood, plenum and filters collecting grease. It’s Windsor and Maidenhead council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Ascot. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Ascot. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of All Souls or elsewhere in Ascot, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. School kitchens, at schools like South Ascot Village Primary School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. A kitchen near Ascot station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Ascot

The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:

  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The number of sites or systems

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and any previous report or certificate. Then call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Different parts, different methods

Island canopies

Island canopies hang over cooking in the middle of the kitchen, so every face can collect grease. We clean all of them, inside and out.

School and staff canteen kitchens

A canteen canopy may cook fewer hours, but it still collects grease. BESA guidance still sets a minimum interval for the whole system, and the canopy is part of it.

What your team can do, and what needs us

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Aftercare tips

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
  • Wipe the canopy down at close every day
  • Never run the range with a filter out
  • Empty the grease troughs before they fill

We recommend when the canopy, or the whole system, should next be cleaned. That date is based on your cooking hours and what we found, in line with BESA guidance.

The best thing a kitchen can do for its canopy is keep the filters clean. Wash or exchange them regularly, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.

Multi-site and managed buildings

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
