Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in North Ascot

The canopy is the part of the extract everyone in the kitchen sees. It’s also the first place cooking vapour meets, so grease gathers on its inner skin, seams and gutters. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. The work covers wall canopies, grease gutters and plenum chambers, and people most often call us about grease filters blocking between washes and a hood coated in old grease.

For a smaller kitchen near North Ascot, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

Every visit ends with a written report and photos, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Part by part

School and staff canteen kitchens

Lighter cooking still leaves grease on the canopy. BESA guidance still sets a minimum interval for the whole system, and the canopy is part of it.

Wall canopies

A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. The joint between canopy and wall is a common grease trap, so we clean along it as well as the inner skin.

What a clean won’t put right

Canopy cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think.

What the work covers

  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Island canopies
  • Canopy light fittings

Grease, kitchens and North Ascot

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 20 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of North Ascot. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. Environmental health officers from Bracknell Forest council inspect food businesses in North Ascot. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. The fire and rescue service for North Ascot is Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Chapel of St Mary and St John or elsewhere in North Ascot, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (St Leonard's Hill is about 3.9 miles north-east), access may need planning.

North Ascot is about 3 miles east of Bracknell, in Windsor and Maidenhead. Across the SL5 area, we can take on canopy cleaning. Across Windsor and Maidenhead, we cover 57 places, North Ascot among them. There’s also a page for Reading, about 12 miles away.

Work in SL5 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. If you need canopy cleaning at premises on London Road, Mansfield Place and Bowyer Walk or anywhere close by, our technicians can take on the work. We also cover the places around North Ascot: Brookside (1 mile north-east), Ascot (1 mile south-east), Plaistow Green (1 mile north-east), Woodside (2 miles north-east) and Winkfield (2 miles north). Within a short drive, we also cover Maidenhead (7 miles north), Windsor (5 miles north-east), Boyn Hill (7 miles north), Cookham (10 miles north), Furze Platt (8 miles north) and Dedworth (5 miles north-east). North Ascot is one of the larger places we cover in Windsor and Maidenhead for canopy cleaning.

Around North Ascot

Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to Garth Hill College, Royal Hunt pub and LVS Ascot and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Ascot station, roughly 1 mile south-east. Well-known places in the area include Heatherwood Hospital (0.5 miles south-east) and The Lexicon (2.5 miles west). Not far away are Virginia Water Lake.

When to call us in North Ascot

Because the plenum sits behind the filters, it’s easy to forget. Kitchen staff clean what they can see, so the plenum often carries months of grease.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
  • Grease dripping from the canopy edge
  • Condensation and grease dripping together
  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Heatherwood Hospital (about 0.5 miles south-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

FAQs for North Ascot

Who is the fire and rescue service for North Ascot?

That is Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Will you come out to North Ascot?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Where does the waste go?

It leaves the site with us when we go. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.

What do you do to protect the area?

By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.

Does a canopy clean meet TR19?

On its own, a canopy clean is a useful extra rather than a full TR19 clean. Your report lists exactly what was cleaned so nobody mistakes it for a full system clean.

What if parts of the system can’t be reached?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

How long is a canopy clean?

One lightly soiled hood does not take long, but large or heavily soiled canopies take longer. We will tell you what to expect.

Are the filters cleaned too?

They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. We check each one seats properly, because gaps let grease through.

What happens on the day

Every visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, clear away and leave you the report. On site, the work takes a few hours for most canopies. Your opening hours decide when we come to North Ascot, not ours.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. We protect everything below once it has cooled.
  3. Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
  4. We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
  5. You get photos of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.

How to prepare

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Ask for a quote

For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We usually come back within one working day.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Why act early in North Ascot

When grease clogs the filters and plenum, the canopy can’t draw air as it should. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier while the fan strains. A clean canopy and plenum let the extract do its job. When a site near North Ascot shuts unexpectedly, the people who rely on it notice at once.

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. You’ll have a fixed price before any work starts.

Why book with us

  • A fixed price before any work starts
  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001
  • Every job surveyed first
  • A written report with pictures after each visit

Between visits

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Give the canopy a wipe after service
  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Keep every filter in place while cooking
  • Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools

The report gives a recommended next clean date. That date is based on your cooking hours and what we found, in line with BESA guidance.

Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.
