Kitchen extract cleaning in SL6: how it works
We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. Common call-outs are for proof of cleaning requested by an insurer and poor airflow at the canopy, on extract fans, horizontal duct runs and plenums and filters.
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one.
- We survey the system first, from your photos and details or on a site visit.
- Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before work begins.
- On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
- The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
- Readings and pictures are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

Local landmarks in Maidenhead
Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to Boyne Hill CofE Infant and Nursery School, Desborough College and Braywick Park and the streets around them. You’ll also find All Saints' Church (under half a mile south-west), Claires Court Schools (within half a mile north) and The Windsor Castle pub (less than half a mile north-west). The nearest railway station is Maidenhead station, roughly 0.5 miles south-east of the centre. A little further out are The Reitlinger Bequest Museum (1.2 miles east) and St Mark's Hospital (0.6 miles west). Green spaces nearby include Weycock Hill and Taplow Lake.
Where we work in SL6
In SL6, a busy kitchen in a place such as Slough, Maidenhead and Boyn Hill and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. The right interval comes from hours of use and grease readings.
In England, the Fire Safety Order puts the duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and a TR19® certificate and photo report give you a record of the work.
Maidenhead: School kitchens, at schools like Claires Court Schools for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near All Saints' Church or elsewhere in Maidenhead, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.
Managing agents and facilities teams in SL6
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
What the work involves, part by part
Ductwork and risers
Long flat runs of duct are where grease collects. Each run is cleaned through its access panels, recording any that cannot be reached.
Restaurant and pub kitchens
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens often cook for long hours, frying and grilling, so their cleaning interval is often 3 or 6 months under BESA guidance. We clean after close or before opening.
When something else is needed
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Extraction that cannot cope with the cooking because of its design
- A broken extract fan that won’t run
- A grease trap that needs emptying
Aftercare tips
After the visit, a few habits help the work last:
- Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
- Report grease drips, smells or fan noise straight away
- File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
- Keep to the recommended cleaning interval
The certificate records when the clean was done, where and by whom. Keep it in the maintenance log with your fire risk assessment so it’s ready when anyone asks to see it.
Run the extract whenever the kitchen is cooking. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.
What staff can safely do
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in SL6
What types of premises do you cover?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
Will the clean disrupt our service?
We clean while the kitchen is closed, working evenings, overnight or at weekends to suit you. Equipment needs to be off and cool before any work starts.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for anything that cannot wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
Strictly, the legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not from TR19. In practice, TR19 is how kitchens show they’re managing grease, and an insurer may refuse or reduce a claim without it.
How long does it take to clean a kitchen extract system?
Allow one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one. We’ll confirm the time when we quote.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.
