Canopy Cleaning in Cheapside
Deep cleaning of kitchen canopies, hoods, plenums and grease filters, inside and out for Cheapside, with a survey first and a report with photos at the end. Call for a fixed quote.
- Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
- A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
How the visit works
Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the job takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Cheapside and turn up when the site is quiet.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- We protect everything below once it has cooled.
- Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
- We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
- You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.
Preparing for the visit
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Canopy cleaning in Cheapside
The canopy is the part of the extract everyone in the kitchen sees. It’s also the first place cooking vapour meets, so grease gathers on its inner skin, seams and gutters. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. The work covers wall canopies, baffle filters and canopy light fittings, and common reasons people get in touch are grease dripping from the canopy edge and wet, greasy drips from the hood.
Somewhere as small as Cheapside, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.
For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

What canopy cleaning can’t fix
We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:
- A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think.
What the work covers
- Grease gutters
- Canopy light fittings
- Wall canopies
- Island canopies
- Baffle filters
- Plenum chambers
What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- How big the system is
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- What state the system is in
The cost depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.
What we need to know
A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- The postcode and the type of business
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
FAQs for Cheapside
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Cheapside?
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Cheapside. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Can school kitchens in Cheapside be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Around Cheapside, the Food Standards Agency lists about 9 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos with the dates the site is empty.
Why is my canopy dripping grease?
A full trough, gaps around the filters or a coated plenum. We clean all three and point out anything that is causing it.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it, and the quote is based on that.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.
Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?
TR19® Grease is about the whole extract, from canopy to discharge. A canopy clean helps between full cleans, but the ducts and fan still need doing, and the report will say what was covered.
What do you do with what you remove?
We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.
What happens to the filters during the clean?
The filters are removed, cleaned and put back. We check each one seats properly, because gaps let grease through.
Why it’s worth doing now in Cheapside
Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Heat from the range bakes canopy grease into a hard, dark layer, which makes a later clean slower and harder. In a small place like Cheapside, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
We don’t list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we will talk you through it.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Cheapside?
Steam and condensation make canopy grease harder to deal with. As the canopy cools, condensation forms and runs with the grease. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.
It’s time to book a visit if you see:
- Grease channels that no longer drain
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
- A hood coated in old grease
- Wet, greasy drips from the hood
Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Michael and All Angels or anywhere around Cheapside, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Aftercare tips
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
- Never run the range with a filter out
- Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
- Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
We point out anything we noticed while the canopy was apart: bent or poorly fitting filters, a light cover that’s cracked, or troughs that fill too quickly. It’s a short list of what to watch, not a sales pitch.
Don’t let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Most canopy drips start with a full trough, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
