Our canopy cleaning service in Reading
Every canopy we clean in Reading gets the same treatment: we remove the filters, clean the plenum and housing, then degrease the canopy shell. Before and after pictures go into your report. We’re often asked to deal with grease dripping from the canopy edge and greasy streaks across the canopy, across plenum chambers, canopy light fittings and grease gutters.
We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before work begins, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits.
- We look at the canopy first, from photos or on a visit.
- The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
- We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.
How we quote
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
Why businesses in Reading choose us
- Every job surveyed first
- A BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
- Each visit written up, with pictures
- In business since 2009
Getting a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Landmarks near Caversham
Around Caversham, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near Eldon Square, Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre and Chiltern Nursery Nurse Training School and the streets around them. Nearby too are The Hill Primary School (under half a mile north-east), Grace Church (under half a mile east) and The White Horse pub (less than half a mile north). Caversham’s nearest station is Reading station, roughly 1.3 miles south of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Royal Berkshire Hospital (1.9 miles south) and Broad Street Mall (1.6 miles south). For a walk, there’s South Lake and Sonning Hill.
Canopy cleaning around Reading
In Reading, we work in places such as Caversham, Norcot and West Reading and well beyond. Every place on our Reading list (34 in all) is covered, with cleans booked around trading hours.
Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites in Reading can keep trading.
Caversham: A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Grace Church or elsewhere in Caversham, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. For schools such as The Hill Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
What the work involves, part by part
Grease troughs and gutters
A blocked or full trough is the usual cause of grease dripping from the canopy. We clean it out so the grease has somewhere to go.
Pub and hotel kitchens
Pub and hotel kitchens can cook from breakfast to late evening. That is a lot of grease on the canopy, and canopy cleans between full cleans can help.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Reading
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
Common problems we fix in Reading
Grease that runs down the inside of a canopy gathers in its gutters and troughs. Left to fill up, they spill over, so fat ends up running down the front of the hood.
Look out for any of the following:
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
- Drips from the canopy onto the range
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
- Grease filters blocking between washes
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
When something else is needed
In fairness, some problems need a different fix:
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- A light fitting that doesn’t work
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
Questions from Reading
Are you accredited?
CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.
How much notice should we give?
Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. We typically quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.
What do you do to protect the area?
Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
Can I just have the canopy cleaned instead of the whole system?
On its own, a canopy clean is a useful extra rather than a full TR19 clean. We’ll make clear on the report which parts were cleaned so nobody mistakes it for a full system clean.
Will I get a report after the canopy clean?
You get a photo report with before and after photos. Full system cleans also come with a TR19 certificate.
What types of premises do you cover?
We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.
