  • A light fitting that does not work
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system

Canopy cleaning in Tokers Green, done properly

We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you have drips from the canopy onto the range and poor capture at the hood, we can put it right, from canopy light fittings, grease gutters and plenum chambers onwards.

Somewhere as small as Tokers Green, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Between visits

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:

  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Tell us when the canopy starts to drip
  • Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
  • Check all filters are fitted before service

A before and after photo report follows the clean. The report lists what was cleaned and any part we couldn’t get to, so the record is honest and complete.

A daily wipe of the hood keeps fresh grease from baking on. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.

Kitchen extracts in Tokers Green

A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

How the visit works

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the pictures you sent. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. From there, it takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Tokers Green before we set off.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. We protect everything below once it has cooled.
  3. Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
  4. We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
  5. The canopy is signed off with before and after pictures and a next clean date.

Advice

Different parts, different methods

Grease troughs and gutters

Drips from the canopy edge often start in a full gutter. We clean it out so the grease has somewhere to go.

Plenums and filter housings

Behind neglected filters, the plenum can be heavily coated. We remove thick grease by hand, then degrease.

What staff can safely do

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

How we price canopy cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • The condition of the system
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Any permits to work or inductions

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Helping us quote

We can often survey from pictures. Try to include:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • The postcode and the type of business

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Tokers Green

Which fire authority looks after Tokers Green?

Tokers Green is in the area of Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Do you work in villages like Tokers Green?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Tokers Green is covered. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

How much of the canopy do you clean?

All of it: the outer surfaces, the inner skin, the seams and the troughs. We also remove the filters and clean the plenum and housing behind them because that is often the dirtiest part.

Why does grease run off the canopy edge?

Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. Once the troughs and plenum are full, it runs down and drips, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.

Will I get a report after the canopy clean?

You get a photo report with before and after photos. If the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19 clean, a TR19 certificate is issued too.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

What should I send you?

Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few photos and any previous report.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Tokers Green

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
