Grease troughs and gutters

A blocked or full trough is the usual cause of grease dripping from the canopy. We clean it out so the grease has somewhere to go.

Pub and hotel kitchens

In pubs and hotels, the kitchen may be busy for much of the day. Long hours mean the canopy collects grease fast, so it may need cleaning between full TR19 cleans.

Canopy cleaning in Gallowstree Common, done properly

We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Typical jobs include overflowing grease troughs and gutters and a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away, across island canopies, canopy light fittings and plenum chambers.

For a kitchen in or near Gallowstree Common, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops
  • Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
  • Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
  • Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy

Keep the photo report with your maintenance log where an inspector can see it. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.

Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It won’t replace a professional clean, but it slows the build-up you can see.

What canopy cleaning can’t fix

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • Bent or broken filters
  • Electrical faults in the canopy
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Island canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies

Common problems we fix in Gallowstree Common

Steam and condensation make canopy grease harder to deal with. Water vapour condenses on the cooler canopy surfaces and drips and runs with the grease. Drips onto the cooking line are a common result.

The symptoms we’re asked about most are:

  • Poor capture at the hood
  • Canopy gutters full of old fat
  • A hood coated in old grease
  • A plenum thick with grease behind the filters

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St John the Baptist or elsewhere in Gallowstree Common, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

What your quote should include

  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part

How we price canopy cleaning

Your quote is based on your site. We consider:

  • The condition of the system
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The times the site is available
  • How easy every part is to reach

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.

What to send for a quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll usually have a quote within one working day.

What happens if it’s left?

Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, which makes a later clean slower and harder. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Gallowstree Common questions

Is Gallowstree Common within the area you cover?

Yes, Gallowstree Common is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Gallowstree Common?

That is Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. A canopy clean helps between full cleans, but the ducts and fan still need doing, and the report will say what was covered.

Do you provide pictures of the cleaned canopy?

Before and after pictures go into a report that lists what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach. Where the whole system is cleaned, you also get a TR19 certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

How much of the canopy do you clean?

Everything from the outer face to the plenum behind the filters. Troughs, gutters and filter housings are cleaned too.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. We always survey first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where necessary. Then you get a fixed quote.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

The process

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Seeing the system in photos first means the trip to Gallowstree Common can be planned properly.

  1. Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
  4. We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
  5. You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.

How to prepare

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Ask for a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.
