TR19 cleaning across PO10

How kitchen extract cleaning works in PO10

We have been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Common call-outs are for extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit and a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction, on horizontal duct runs, plenums and filters and discharge points.

We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. After that, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.

How we quote

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Why book with us

  • Fixed quotes from a survey or photos
  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001
  • Full insurance on every job
  • We diagnose before we treat

How to get a quote

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Local landmarks in Emsworth

Typical jobs here are in premises near Bourne Community College, Church of St James and The Kings Arms. You’ll also find Eames Farm (1.4 miles south) and St James Church of England Controlled Primary School (within half a mile north). Emsworth has its own railway station: Emsworth station. Well-known places in the area include Havant War Memorial Hospital (2.2 miles west) and Emsworth Museum (under half a mile south). The countryside around Emsworth includes Brook Meadow (Emsworth).

Where we work in PO10

Across PO10, from Chichester, Emsworth and Denvilles outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.

Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites in PO10 can keep trading. Coastal kitchens in PO10 often have their busiest months in the summer, so it pays to book work around the busy season.

Emsworth: If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St James or elsewhere in Emsworth, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. A hospital like Havant War Memorial Hospital, about 2.2 miles west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Why deal with it now?

Grease build-up causes everyday problems too. Blocked filters and narrowed ducts slow the airflow, leaving the kitchen hot and smoky, while the fan works harder to move less air. Smells, dripping grease and condensation often follow.

Comparing quotes

  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed

What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix

Kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • A grease trap that needs emptying
  • A duct that is holed or coming apart
  • Fire dampers that won’t close (that needs damper testing and remedials)

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Different parts, different methods

Grease filters

We clean the grease filters as part of the job, and put back so they seat correctly. We will tell you if any need replacing.

Ductwork and risers

Vertical risers carry the air up through the building, and grease often collects at the bottom of them. They’re cleaned through access points along their height.

Questions from PO10

When do you clean the extract?

Out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. We need the equipment cool, and we leave the kitchen ready to cook.

What do you do with what you remove?

We take it away at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.

What do I get after the clean?

Yes, a TR19 certificate, along with a photo report. The report lists what was cleaned, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next clean is due.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Which parts of the extract do you clean?

Every part the air passes through, as far as access allows. Where there are not enough access panels to reach a section, it’s recorded, and we can fit new ones.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

The legal duty sits in the Fire Safety Order 2005 rather than in TR19 itself. In practice, TR19 is how kitchens show they’re managing grease, and many insurers ask for proof of it.

What types of premises do you cover?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, as well as food production and leisure sites.
