AHU cleaning for sites in Emsworth

How we handle AHU cleaning in Emsworth

Coils are where a lot of the dirt ends up. A coated coil restricts airflow and makes the unit work harder. We clean coils with methods suited to their condition, taking care not to damage the fins. The work covers supply and extract fans, drain trays and heating and cooling coils, and common reasons people get in touch are odours coming through the supply air and air handling units due a clean after building work.

In a smaller place like Emsworth, buildings with ducted ventilation are more likely to be a school, a surgery, a care home or a small business unit than an office block. Even a small system collects dust in its ducts and filters.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Part by part

Rooftop and plant room units

Units outside are exposed to weather and windblown debris. We clean the intake and first stage of filters along with the rest.

Drain trays

Condensate from the coil drips into a tray beneath it. We clear standing water, clean out slime and check the outlet is draining.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

Common problems we fix in Emsworth

Filters catch most of the dust, but not all of it. What gets through settles on coils, fans and the inside of the casing, a little more each month.

Common reasons sites call us are:

  • Air handling units with blocked filters
  • Condensate trays that will not empty
  • Leaves and litter drawn into the unit
  • Air handling units due a clean after building work

Healthcare buildings such as Havant War Memorial Hospital, about 2.2 miles west, depend on their ventilation; if you manage a surgery, clinic or care home near Emsworth, yours matters too.

Questions to ask before booking

Emsworth questions

Do you do school ventilation cleaning in Emsworth in the summer holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 4 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Emsworth. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Do you cover smaller places like Emsworth?

Yes. Emsworth is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

How much notice do you need?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Are you insured?

Yes, we’re fully insured. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.

How often should an air handling unit be cleaned?

TR19® Air takes a risk-based approach, so it depends on inspection rather than a fixed interval. Each report suggests when the unit should next be looked at.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Some pictures and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we’ll ask.

Can you clean the ducts connected to the AHU?

Yes. Ductwork is cleaned through access panels, with anything inaccessible recorded, with new panels fitted where needed.

Buildings like these often rely on mechanical ventilation, which TR19® Air covers. We cover Emsworth, about 58 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours. Havant War Memorial Hospital is the nearest hospital, about 2.2 miles west of Emsworth. If you run a surgery, clinic or care home, your ventilation deserves the same care as a hospital’s, on a smaller scale.

Classrooms and halls at schools such as St James Church of England Controlled Primary School are easiest to work in when pupils are away. Workplaces around Emsworth station with an air handling unit need the filters, coils and drain tray looked at, as well as the ducts.

What your team can do, and what needs us

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

Between visits

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Keep filter changes on time and recorded
  • Report stiff or damaged access doors
  • Clear leaves and litter away from the intake
  • Keep the certificate and photo report with the plant records

When we have closed the unit up, it can be restarted with your site team. Check the drain tray is emptying over the first few days to confirm water is draining away.

Keep the area around the intake clear. Anything around the intake is likely to be drawn in.

What we do, step by step

The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes half a day to a full day per unit, with large plant planned over several shifts. A site near Emsworth normally has room to park, so the questions are about access to the system and your hours.

  1. First the unit is surveyed, from pictures or a visit, and the scope agreed.
  2. The unit is shut down with your site team and the area protected.
  3. We clean or change the filters as agreed, then clean the coils, fan and internal panels.
  4. Standing water and slime come out of the tray and the drain is checked.
  5. A TR19® certificate and photo report follow the clean.

Preparing for the visit

  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
