Kitchen extract cleaning in Woodmancote, done properly

We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers plenums and filters, extract fans and discharge points, and common reasons people get in touch are stale cooking odours from the system and missing paperwork after a change of operator. Hood cleaning is where most enquiries from Woodmancote start: a clean that goes past the canopy into the duct and fan, backed by a certificate.

Each job starts with a look at where grease has built up: grease readings at set points tell us where the heaviest deposits are, and readings afterwards go into your report.

In a village or hamlet like Woodmancote, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

FAQs for Woodmancote

Is Woodmancote within the area you cover?

Yes. Woodmancote is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Which council inspects kitchens in Woodmancote?

That’s Chichester council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Woodmancote. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Every site has its own report.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19 is the benchmark used to show extract grease is under control.

Is a quote from photos possible?

Often, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we can’t see enough, we arrange a survey.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, always. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need and the fixed quote is built on it.

What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?

That comes down mainly to daily cooking hours. Heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day calls for a clean at least every 3 months under BESA guidance, and lighter use less often. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Book the next clean before the date on the report
  • Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
  • Keep grease collection points emptied
  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise right away

Every clean ends with a photo report. Before and after pictures show each part of the system, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.

Tell whoever looks after the system when something changes. Grease dripping from the canopy, a burning smell or a fan that sounds rough are all signs of build-up, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.

When to call us in Woodmancote

Grease filters are the first line of defence, and they’re often the weak point. Filters that are bent, badly fitted, missing or left uncleaned let more fat into the plenum and duct, and from there it travels on to the fan.

Common reasons sites call us are:

  • A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history
  • Extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit
  • Ductwork thick with old, hardened grease
  • A system with no record of a TR19 clean

Bursars and site managers at schools such as Bourne Community College tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

Questions to ask before you book

Kitchen extracts in Woodmancote

Woodmancote is within about 2 miles of the coast. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. Food Standards Agency records list about 10 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 4 takeaways and sandwich shops across Woodmancote and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Each one that cooks under a canopy has an extract system that collects grease and needs regular cleaning. Environmental health officers from Chichester council inspect food businesses in Woodmancote. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Havant War Memorial Hospital about 3.7 miles west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Woodmancote Church, or anywhere in Woodmancote, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Woodmancote is about 4 miles east of Havant, in West Sussex. We provide kitchen extract cleaning for businesses, landlords and public buildings in Woodmancote and the rest of West Sussex. We cover 371 places across West Sussex, large and small. We also work in Portsmouth, around 8 miles away.

What happens on the day

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Woodmancote.

  1. We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings and photos are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • The size of the system
  • The times the site is available
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Any permits to work or inductions

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What we need to know

When you call or email, it’s useful to have:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Any previous report or certificate

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, photos of the system and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Different parts, different methods

Grease filters

Filters need cleaning far more often than the duct and we offer a filter exchange service for that. Clean filters slow the build-up further down the system.

Ductwork and risers

Risers take the extract up through floors to roof level, and grease runs down their walls and pools at the base. They’re cleaned through access points along their height.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

Leave it or put it right?

There’s no law that names TR19, but the Fire Safety Order 2005 still applies. The responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and in a kitchen that means keeping extract grease under control. Cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve done it. If the system at a site near Woodmancote fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
