Kitchen extract cleaning in PO11: how it works

The part of the system nobody sees is often the dirtiest. Access panels let us into the duct runs and risers, removing thick grease by hand, then using degreasers, hot water or steam to suit the deposit. Anything out of reach is noted in the report, and new panels can be fitted. Common call-outs are for cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey and missing paperwork after a change of operator, on discharge points, horizontal duct runs and canopies and hoods.

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.

What you’ll pay

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Local landmarks in South Hayling

In South Hayling, that means kitchens and buildings near St Mary's Church, The Hayling College and Newton House Hotel and the streets around them. Nearby too are The Hayling College (0.5 miles north) and Mengham Junior School (under half a mile north). South Hayling’s nearest station is Fratton station, about 4.3 miles west of the centre. A little further out are St James Hospital (3.3 miles west) and Eastney Beam Engine House (3.1 miles west). Open spaces near South Hayling include Hayling Billy.

Where we work in PO11

Our kitchen extract cleaning work across PO11 takes in places such as Havant, South Hayling and West Town and the villages in between. We cover every place we list for PO11, 10 in all, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.

London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. Wherever the site is in PO11, the work is done to the same TR19® standard. In the coastal parts of PO11, salt air and damp are hard on ductwork, fans and dampers, which is worth knowing when systems are inspected.

South Hayling: If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Mary's Church or elsewhere in South Hayling, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Mengham Junior School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

For landlords and multi-site operators

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Refit filters properly after cleaning
  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy

If we couldn’t get into part of the duct, the report says so plainly. A TR19 report should record what wasn’t cleaned as well as what was, and new access panels can be fitted so the next clean covers it.

Regular filter cleaning is the simplest thing a kitchen can do. A filter that’s clean and seated properly stops more grease getting into the plenum, which slows build-up further down the system.

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What to send for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • The site address and the type of premises

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Why deal with it now?

Putting it off simply moves the grease further down the duct. Over time, soft grease bakes into a harder, thicker crust, and that takes more work to shift. Regular cleans keep each visit shorter.

What your quote should include

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos

Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in PO11

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, if we can see what we need. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Every site has its own report.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19 is the benchmark used to show extract grease is under control.

How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?

The minimum is set by BESA guidance on daily use, from 3-monthly to 12-monthly. Kitchens that fry or grill a lot may need cleaning sooner, which grease thickness testing will show.

How much notice should we give?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
