Kitchen extract cleaning in N2

Our kitchen extract cleaning service in N2

Has the extract gone a while without a clean, or has the paperwork gone missing? Just call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with pictures of the canopy and filters, and you will have a fixed quote for kitchen extract cleaning in N2, typically within one working day. Typical jobs include an inspection that picked up a dirty extract and grease drips onto cooking equipment, across extract fans, plenums and filters and canopies and hoods.

We’re used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

What you will pay

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

Kitchen extract cleaning around N2

From Hampstead, Finchley and East Finchley to its smaller places, N2 has kitchens of every size. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.

Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites in N2 can keep trading.

East Finchley: Historic houses near East Finchley, such as Heath Hall about 1.1 miles south, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. Where a hall near Church of the Holy Trinity, or anywhere in East Finchley, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Why deal with it now?

If there’s a fire and the extract hasn’t been cleaned, the paperwork becomes the problem. Many policies require cleaning to TR19, and an insurer can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. A current certificate is far easier to produce than an explanation.

Part by part

Grease filters

Baffle filters are cleaned as part of every TR19 clean, and refitted so they sit properly in the housing. Damaged ones are noted on the report.

Canopy and plenum

Grease meets the system first at the canopy and the plenum behind the filters. Both are scraped and degreased inside and out, including the filter housing.

Keeping the system healthy

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works
  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
  • Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate
  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking

After cleaning, we re-test the same points we measured at the start, so you can see the difference in numbers as well as pictures. Your TR19 certificate is then issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Report drips, smells or a noisy fan early. Grease dripping from the canopy, a burning smell or a fan that sounds rough are all signs of build-up, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.

Multi-site and managed buildings

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Common questions in N2

Can you quote from pictures?

Often, yes. With good photos, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line, and we will advise on what to do next.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

TR19 is not written into law, but the Fire Safety Order 2005 does require the responsible person to manage fire risk. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19 as the standard, and many policies require it.

How long will the clean take?

Length of duct, grease levels and access all affect it. Most jobs take a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

Why do insurers care about extract cleaning?

Grease in an extract is a known fire risk, so many insurers want evidence it’s being cleaned to TR19. Each clean gives you a certificate and photo report to show them.
