Grease trap cleaning in Chessington

Grease trap cleaning in Chessington, done properly

Kitchens in Chessington use us for grease trap cleaning, whether it’s an under-sink unit or a larger inline trap. Visits are booked around your service, so the kitchen keeps running. Common call-outs are for a grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time and a small trap that fills too quickly, across kitchen waste pipes, pot wash sinks and under-sink grease traps.

London kitchens work hard in small spaces, so grease collects behind equipment, on ceilings and in drains and grease traps. In Chessington, deep cleans and grease trap work are normally done overnight.

A written report with photos follows every visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Honest limits

Grease trap cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It does not solve:

  • Blockages further down the drainage network
  • Leaking pipework or sink wastes, which need a plumber
  • A grease trap that’s too small for the kitchen

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will say what we think before booking.

Chessington questions

How do you handle parking and loading in Chessington?

We plan it in advance, so let us know about loading bays, permits and access rules at the building. Night visits tend to make loading easier on London streets.

Can you work in Chessington outside opening hours?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The work in Chessington can fit around your hours. Just call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your opening times and we will plan around them.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

The law calls them the responsible person. It’s normally the employer, or whoever controls the building, and where several people have control, each can have duties. Your lease and fire risk assessment should make it clear.

What should go in our maintenance log?

Anything that proves the system is maintained: our reports and photos, any certificates and your in-house logs. A single log for each site works best.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Every site has its own report.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

Is TR19 cleaning required by law?

No. The law sets the duty; TR19® is the benchmark used to show it’s met. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person has to manage fire risk, and many insurers can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of cleaning.

Aftercare tips

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Hot water only moves grease further down
  • Do not wait for a blockage to book a clean
  • Fit sink strainers to catch food scraps
  • Act on gurgling or smelly drains

Between cleans, keep food scraps out of the sink. Use strainers in the sink plugholes so less solid waste gets through.

An overfull trap lets grease pass. Regular emptying keeps it working and saves a call-out for a blocked drain.

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. Getting kit into a London building takes planning, so let us know where we can load and park in Chessington.

  1. We locate the trap and check how it’s fitted.
  2. Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
  3. Grease and solids are removed from the trap.
  4. We clean every part of the inside.
  5. The trap is refitted, tested with water and the waste taken away.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

How we price grease trap cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • The scale of the work
  • The number of sites or systems

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What we need to know

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:

  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before work begins.

What grease trap cleaning looks like in Chessington

Food Standards Agency data counts about 93 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 45 sandwich bars and takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Chessington. Each of them sends fat, oil and grease towards the drain, which is why grease traps need regular emptying. Kitchens in Chessington get their food hygiene inspections from Kingston-Upon-Thames council. The state of floors, drains and hard-to-reach corners all feeds into the inspection. A record of each deep clean helps show the kitchen is kept in order. Most London kitchens can’t close in the day, so deep cleaning is typically done overnight.

Hall kitchens near Church of St Mary the Virgin or elsewhere in Chessington may have older sinks and drains, so a grease trap check is worth adding to a deep clean. If you run a care home or healthcare kitchen near Chessington (the nearest hospital is Tolworth Hospital, about 1.2 miles north-east), a grease trap on a set schedule avoids a blocked drain mid-service.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Signs you need grease trap cleaning in Chessington

Hot washing-up water keeps grease liquid for a while. Once it cools, it sets, often in the trap or the pipe beyond.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Gurgling from the sink waste
  • Foul odours from the grease trap
  • An under-sink unit that needs regular emptying
  • A routine grease trap service

If you serve passing trade near Chessington North station, a grease trap on a regular schedule keeps the drains running through busy weeks.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • Whether VAT is included

Our hiring checklist

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
