How kitchen extract cleaning works in KT1

We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers vertical risers, plenums and filters and horizontal duct runs, and the jobs we see most are a kitchen taken over without any extract records and extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit.

Our technicians bring everything the work needs, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
  4. Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

How we quote

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

Why businesses in KT1 choose us

  • CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, with ISO 9001
  • A written report with pictures after every visit
  • Survey first, then a fixed quote
  • Full insurance on every job

How to get a quote

For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll usually have a quote within one working day.

Around Hampton Wick, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near Foresters Arms, Kingston Grammar School and Canbury Gardens, among other places. Hampton Wick has its own railway station: Hampton Wick station. Kitchen extract cleaning around KT1

Across KT1, from Kingston upon Thames, Surbiton and New Malden outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.

We work across London and the South East, and KT1 is part of that area. Every job is surveyed first and quoted at a fixed price, wherever it is in KT1.

Hampton Wick: Commuter trade near Hampton Wick station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. Bursars and site managers at schools such as St John the Baptist Church of England Junior School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

What to send for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to have:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you will usually have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Why it fails

We often find duct sections that haven’t been cleaned since they were installed. Most of the time it’s because there were never enough access panels, so those sections were never reached. Grease in those sections keeps building out of sight.

Most sites get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Rancid smells from grease in the duct
  • A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history
  • Grease drips onto cooking equipment
  • A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate

When it’s something else

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • A canopy that is too small or a system that was badly designed
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing
  • Fire dampers that won’t close (that needs damper testing and remedials)

KT1 questions

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Every site has its own report.

Do we have to close the kitchen for the clean?

Cleans are timed to avoid service. Overnight, weekend and between-service cleans are all possible, so you do not lose a service.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, if we can see what we need. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, and the quote follows that.

Are you a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 sit alongside that, and we are fully insured.

What if parts of the system can’t be reached?

They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.
