About kitchen extract cleaning in SW15

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. We are often asked to deal with a kitchen with no current TR19 certificate and poor airflow at the canopy, on vertical risers, plenums and filters and discharge points.

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system.

  1. We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
  2. Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
  3. The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
  4. We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Where we work in SW15

Across SW15, from Hurlingham, Putney and Wandsworth outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.

Much of our work across London and the South East happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so sites across SW15 do not have to lose a day.

Putney: A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Polish Church of St John the Evangelist or elsewhere in Putney, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability about 0.8 miles south-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

What affects the quote in SW15

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • The times the site is available
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • The condition we find in the survey

Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

Asking for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • The postcode and the type of business

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Different parts, different methods

Ductwork and risers

Grease builds up most where the duct turns. Those are among the points where we take readings before and after, so the report shows the difference.

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Even a kitchen that cooks only a few hours a day needs cleaning at least every 12 months under BESA guidance. Holidays make it simple to schedule.

What happens if it’s left?

Every week without a clean adds another layer. Under BESA guidance, grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans.

Comparing quotes

  • Proof of insurance
  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.

When it’s something else

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing
  • Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)

FAQs for SW15

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. We always survey first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.

How long will the clean take?

Short systems are done in a few hours, while long runs and tall risers take longer and may need more than one visit. We will tell you how long when we quote.

Will the clean disrupt our service?

Out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. We need the equipment cool, and we leave the kitchen ready to cook.

What is TR19?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked and expects a risk-based approach.

How far ahead should we book?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

You receive a TR19 certificate and a photo report. Certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, and the report includes before and after photos, grease readings and the recommended next clean date.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Every site has its own report.
