TR19 cleaning across DA18

About kitchen extract cleaning in DA18

The ducts are where most of the grease hides. Access panels let us into the duct runs and risers, removing thick grease by hand, then using degreasers, hot water or steam to suit the deposit. Anything out of reach is noted in the report and extra access panels can be added. The work covers canopies and hoods, vertical risers and extract fans, and people most often call us about an overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer and fat running down the canopy edge.

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, and that takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.

  1. We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before we start.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Where we work in DA18

In DA18, we work in places such as Belvedere, Thamesmead and Crossness and well beyond. We cover every place we list for DA18, 3 in all, with cleans booked around trading hours.

Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites across DA18 do not have to lose a day.

Belvedere: Commuter trade near Belvedere station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Erith and District Hospital is the nearest hospital to Belvedere, about 0.8 miles south-east.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • The scale of the work
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • The condition we find in the survey

Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.

Helping us quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

What the work involves, part by part

Grease filters

Between TR19 cleans, filters still need regular cleaning, and a filter exchange service can take that off your hands. Clean filters slow the build-up further down the system.

Extract fan and discharge

Some systems have attenuators to cut noise, and they hold grease. We clean what can be reached and note anything that cannot.

When it’s something else

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Fire dampers that won’t close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
  • A duct that is holed or coming apart
  • Extraction that cannot cope with the cooking because of its design

Why it fails

A kitchen in DA18 builds up grease in the same places as any other: in long flat runs, at bends and changes of direction, and in the fan housing. Cooler sections of duct collect the most.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Poor airflow at the canopy
  • A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
  • Grease smells coming from the extract

DA18: your questions answered

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

What types of premises do you cover?

Commercial premises of every kind: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. Work is timed around how each site runs.

What accreditations do you hold?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 sit alongside that, and we are fully insured.

What do I get after the clean?

Yes, a TR19 certificate, along with a photo report. It records what was cleaned, what wasn’t accessible and the recommended next clean date.

Where does the waste go?

Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.
