TR19 inspection around Belvedere
Food Standards Agency data counts about 54 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 64 takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Belvedere. A WFTT or DTT reading tells each of those kitchens whether its grease is staying under the 200-micron mean. Fire safety in Belvedere falls to London Fire Brigade. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Environmental health officers from Bexley council inspect food businesses in Belvedere. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Erith and District Hospital (about 0.8 miles south-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Church and community hall kitchens, near Parish Church of All Saints or anywhere around Belvedere, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. School kitchens, at schools like Lessness Heath Primary School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

TR19 inspection in Belvedere, done properly
BESA’s minimum cleaning frequencies depend on how long the kitchen cooks each day: every 3 months for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day, every 6 months for moderate use of 6 to 12 hours, and every 12 months for light use of 2 to 6 hours. Grease testing shows whether your kitchen needs cleaning more often than that. The work covers post-clean checks, access surveys and pre-clean surveys, and the jobs we see most are parts of the system left out of past cleans and systems that need surveying before cleaning.
London kitchens tend to trade late and open early, so work in Belvedere is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.
The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with photos after every visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

Belvedere questions
Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Belvedere during the holidays?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. There are about 26 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Belvedere. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Belvedere?
It’s London Fire Brigade, which covers Belvedere. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
How long does a TR19 inspection take?
Typically, the inspection takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. System size and access decide the rest.
Do you work out of hours?
Yes. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote and we will book around them.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that cannot wait. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.
Which sectors do you work in?
All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.
What is TR19?
BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
What staff can safely do
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Looking after it afterwards
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Report grease dripping from the canopy
- Book the next test on the date in the report
- Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test
- Never cook with filters missing
Any access problems we found are listed with a suggested fix. Fitting them before the next clean means the whole system gets done.
Keep all TR19 records together so the history is easy to show.
How we price TR19 inspection
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- The size of the system
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Any permits to work or inductions
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us for straight advice and a fixed quote.
Helping us quote
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.

For landlords and multi-site operators
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in Belvedere and across Greater London. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
What we do, step by step
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the job takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. Most London sites cannot stop for the day, so work in Belvedere is usually done overnight, early in the morning or at weekends.
- First we book a time that won’t disrupt cooking.
- The system is checked from canopy to discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
- We photograph the test points and record any sections we can’t reach.
- The findings go into a report with readings, pictures and a recommended next clean.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
Get a fixed quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.
