Extract fan cleaning for kitchens and businesses in West Ham
If the ducts are the arteries, the fan is the heart. A greasy fan works harder and moves less air. We clean it, run it and note anything that needs a closer look so you get a clean bill of health. If you have a heavily greased fan housing and rough running from the extract fan, we can help, from centrifugal fans, roof-mounted fans and discharge points onwards.
Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, with extract ducts that can climb several floors to discharge at roof level. In West Ham, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.
We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.

Leave it or put it right?
An unbalanced fan gets worse, not better. It wears bearings and mounts and can lead to a breakdown and a kitchen cannot cook safely without extraction. A planned clean beats an emergency. Shared walls, risers and roofs mean a problem at one London site seldom stays put.
Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

What the work involves, part by part
Kitchens with long cooking hours
A fan in a long-hours kitchen runs for most of the day, so grease and wear build up together. Cleaning on time helps keep it running.
Fan housings and motors
Belt-driven fans have a drive belt and pulleys that can collect grease. We clean around them and note any wear for your records.
Common questions in West Ham
Do you work overnight in West Ham?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. It means the site in West Ham keeps running as normal. When you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, mention when the site is quiet.
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in West Ham?
In West Ham, it’s Newham council that carries out food hygiene inspections. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
What types of premises do you cover?
Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for anything that can’t wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.
What about areas you can’t get to?
We never leave them off the paperwork. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
Why is my extract fan noisy?
A common cause is grease. Grease collects unevenly and unbalances the impeller, causing vibration and noise. If cleaning does not, the bearings or motor may need attention.
Are you accredited?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.
How the visit works
Every visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, make the system safe, do the work, clear away and hand over the paperwork. The visit itself takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. Many London buildings have a managing agent, a security desk or a permit-to-work system, so tell us who to contact in West Ham.
- First we check the fan’s condition and how it sounds.
- With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
- Each blade is cleaned so the impeller runs evenly.
- We clean the casing, the outlet and around the motor.
- We run the fan and note its condition in the photo report.
Getting ready for the visit
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

Kitchen extracts in West Ham
Food Standards Agency records include about 45 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 12 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of West Ham. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Kitchens in West Ham get their food hygiene inspections from Newham council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. In London, kitchens are usually cleaned overnight, when the kitchen is closed and loading is easier.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of All Saints or elsewhere in West Ham, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to West Ham is Queen Mary's Hospital for the East End, about 0.6 miles north-west. For kitchens close to West Ham station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.
West Ham is about 2 miles west of East Ham, in Greater London. For extract fan cleaning in and around West Ham, please call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email for a fixed quote. Our area covers London and the South East, West Ham included. Our Greater London coverage runs to 764 places, and West Ham is one of them.
All of E15, E13 and E7 is covered for extract fan cleaning, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Local streets include Plaistow Grove, Willis Road and Moorey Close, all of which we cover for extract fan cleaning. We also cover the places around West Ham: Upton (1 mile north-east), Greengate (1 mile south-east), Maryland (1 mile north-west), Stratford (1 mile north-west) and Plaistow (1 mile south-east). Within a short drive, we also cover London (5 miles south-west), City of Westminster (7 miles west), Marylebone (7 miles west), Kensington (9 miles west), St Pancras (6 miles west) and Shoreditch (4 miles west).
Local landmarks in West Ham
In West Ham, that means kitchens and buildings near West Ham Church School, The Earl Of Derby Public House and St Bonaventure's RC School and the streets around them. The closest station to West Ham is West Ham station, roughly 0.5 miles south-west of the centre. A little further out are Greenwich Castle (3.9 miles south) and Passmore Edwards Museum (0.6 miles north). Open spaces near West Ham include Old Ford Island and Tower Hill.
Multi-site and managed buildings
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in West Ham and across Greater London. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:
- How many systems or sites are involved
- The size of the system
- How easy every part is to reach
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.
Asking for a quote
When you call or email, it’s useful to have:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- The site address and the type of premises
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.
Honest limits
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A dirty duct upstream of the fan
- Damaged fan blades
- A fan that’s too small for the system (a design question)
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before booking.
What the work covers
- In-line fans
- Centrifugal fans
- Fan housings
- Roof-mounted fans
- Axial fans
- Discharge points
What your team can do, and what needs us
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
